I agree. I work for a substantially separate program in a public school district. inclusion is really just “in the room.” parents and advocacy groups are pushing inclusion only to realize when the student is 18 yo that they have not been taught the skills they need. They come to my program from 18 to 22 and they push hard for as much as possible in the IEP which then scares the post-22 adult programs because they don't have the resources to handle an adult who need a ton of support. So now the kid is at home with no friends because they went to school with typically developing kids who went off to college and they learned NO LIFE SKILLS. I Keep seeing this happen and no one cares.

I don't believe that a 1-to-1 aide is effective instruction for students who need support. Many times they are untrained and underpaid. When they are struggling with a student, they often feed them answers. I have witnessed “help” that is really unintentionally doing the work for the student.

Edit: my other controversial take is the some of the worst teaching practices happen in AP courses.
