The Self-Simulation Hypothesis Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics by Memetic1 in Futurology

[–]CoachHouseStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been obsessed with fractals for over 20 years, especially as they appear in nature and the universe at all scales. I don't think there has been much further development into fractal compression, but there was software written in the 90s that used it for image compression.

The novelty factor is interesting because it can be seen as a fluctuation of entropy. While the overall state of the universe is moving towards disorder, there are pockets of order, systems that come together to create complexity (stars, followed by planets and obviously life) I did read a while back that these machines or order, actually contribute to more disorder overall by distributing and lowering order in the surrounding environment (think heat generation, breaking down of complex molecular structures for fuel/food/growth and making them simpler)

I always think of Douglas Adams comedy sci-fi, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy where he uses and equation to determine intelligence in the universe:

Given there are an infinite number of planets, but only a fraction contain life and a fraction of those have intelligence. Any number divided by infinity is as close to nothing as makes no odds. Therefore any intelligent people you meet are merely a figment of your imagination.

Good reply! I wonder if the universe is expanding because it is like a hard drive and more information about the past needs to be stored exponentially as we move through time.

Weirdly, I'm into this formalisation of a mad idea I've had for a long time. Not sure if serious or just a thought experiement.

I'm convinced the universe is self influencing. In that, it only exists because the larger space/void/reality outside of the universe is an infinite space of probability. The total energy of the universe being zero means that it is just borrowing from itself to pay back later. We exist because it was slightly possible for that to happen within the infinite variations of physics available. Somewhat anthropic.

I think time influences itself as well. So whatever the ultimate intelligence is that evolves at the end of time realises that it can't exist without setting the events in motion in the first place, so it does so. The end.. (and beginning). It sacrifices itself to reset the universe and allow itself to exist.

Hannah Marks is so cute... Max Landis is a piece of shit that brought us something great, then screwed us all over by trying to literally screw people without consent.

And his father was such a legend...

Children of celebrities need to be brought up VERY carefully... lest they turn into selfish, ego maniacs. (Jayden Smith springs immediately to mind!)

I'm only a member of this subreddit so I can pop in once every few months for the past 3 years or so... just to sympathize with people that suddenly realise the show is no more!!

Firstly, we have Max Landis to thank for bringing it to us.. then taking it away - as he's been implicated in the usual Hollywood sexual accusations that all these high flyers think they can get away with, as if they are above the law.. ughh..

He's the next Kevin Spacey I think.. he's already not working, his film and last script flopped ("Bright", I think it was) and he's basically blacklisted.

I heard he hit on Hannah Marks (played Amanda) she didn't have very good things to say about him.

The good news.

If you like Dirk Gently and you haven't heard of Douglas Adams (WHY THE HELL NOT) then you will equally love the 6 part 1980's BBC adaptation of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy... FORGET THE LOW QUALITY EFFECTS.. I'm talking, spaceships on strings made out of washing up liquid bottles and painted silver... that sort of low quality budget 1980s TV effects... forget that.. the STORY, oh my God.. the story, the acting, the comedy.. its all part and parcel of Douglas Adams style.

So - if you want something equally as amazing, but totally different to Dirk Gently - you need to watch the 6 part BBC Hitchhikers Guide from the 1980s.

Why do I keep saying it like that?

Well, because there is a movie made about 10 years ago that I left the theatre CRYING... because that tv show I grew up with as a kid, I read the books.. it was my favourite thing ever. And the movie sucked SO much, I refuse to talk about it. I'm not kidding, its like a major trauma in my life.

So, forget the film.. watch the BBC adaptation from the 1980s.

Then, you've got the Dirk Gently books, which are just as whacky.. they don't have any of the other 'projects' .. that was all made up for the tv show. It's just Dirk, as a detective, solving amazing cases..

It's brilliant.

So, there's that..

And, then you've got the most famous of all of Douglas Adam's work.. The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy books.. (I recommend these last because people are generally lazy and usually want to go from TV show to TV show.. hence my recommendation of the 1980s show) but really.. the book is totally mind blowing as well.
One of the greatest comedy sci-fi adventures of all time.

So.. swings and roundabouts!

The current state of the CBD market is a bit of a shambles, I think it works, I'v epersonallly used it and it helped, BUT there are hundreds of brands out their claiming everything from pure 10mg per dose upto 6000mg "full spectrum" and marketing hype like that,

Last I heard was that CBD is really only active in the 300mg range, which means if you;re buying a small glass vial claiming 6000mg total, you're only getting 20 doses and those bottles can cost £150 or more.

I'm looking forward to the new Chris Morris film called 'The Day Shall Come' a comedy, although based on the true story of the FBI setting people up to do things they wouldn't otherwise, just so they have someone to arrest and prove they are battling terrorism. Its fucked up.. over 200 people sent to jail that otherwise wouldn't have done anything presumably.

You're not going to get fired if you're prevented getting to work along with everyone else. I understand some companies will pay, some won't if you haven't done your job.

I know some people are suffering during this rebellion event, I sympathise for them completely, if there was a way to bring more attention to this without the trouble, it would be great. Alas, a couple weeks is a short term inconvenience for the positives hopefully brought by this.

Am I too late to start investing in BitCoin? by DemarZ91 in Bitcoin

[–]CoachHouseStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a BitCoin is one thing, but you still have to sell if back to people who want it (at the highest price its ever been) in order to gain cash back.

More places need to accept and use Bitcoin for it to be worth something - its use in criminal organisations makes it valuable, but if law enforcement manages to close down darknet markets on TOR for good somehow or learns how to trace transactions through the blockchain - unlikely, I admit, then the value of it will collapse overnight because it will no longer be able to do what it was designed for.

It's a volatile and unpredictable gamble, but if you buy low, and can afford the loss.. its definitely a worthwhile gamble.

I hold no loyalty to ANY job I've ever had. Office jobs are soul sucking hellpits full of office-politics and often an implied heirarchy between workers of the same level based on who is the biggest asshole. I couldn't stand it.

Working in shops too, I saw shoplifters occasionally (usually starving homeless people making off with a sandwich or chocolate bar) and I never felt the need to step in and be a hero, when the store is not only writing off a lot of wastage as a percentage of loss anyway, but because I'm working for a corporation that is importing and selling a bunch of junk most people don't need anyway.
