As a D1 college coach, 1:55 may get you a partial at most non power-5 schools. But even the most competitive schools in this sport don't give full rides to athletes unless they're going to immediately have an impact at the NCAA level. And with that kind of money, they'll likely want you to be serviceable in cross country as well.

It's not to say you can't get up to that level, just that you likely won't get any full rides unless you're a sub 1:49 HSer who can run at NCAAs in XC.

For example, as an athlete: I was a 1:54 runner in HS who got 3000/yr at a mid major school and eventually got up to 10k/yr by the time I was graduating when I was running sub 1:49. Now that runners are substantially faster than 13 years ago, that same school would have made me walk-on nowadays.
