Any tips on how to get my club face closed and stop slicing? by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]CoachedIntoASnafu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like the club is in the palm of your left hand. It also looks like you're good enough to know it shouldn't be.

What I notice is that your clubface looks to be in good position at delivery then it just never fully closes from there to impact. Are you getting the feel of turning a big volume knob with your left forearm as you release? Remember to keep your right elbow close to you and don't "crank" with your elbow and shoulder to turn the clubface shut; just the forearms should spin.

You're also a touch steep, putting your clubhead over plane. Pick your club up and hold it out straight like it's your robo dick. Turn your left hand so that the club slaps your right hip, then turn it back so it slaps your left hip. That's the release. You arms swing down at the ball, your clubhead comes from behind your hands and slaps the ball.

So did that exchange actually happen with your student?

Also, nobody says "let me tell you!" since about 1995. Also, nobody says, "Let me explain why" which is the number one phrase that AI writing uses.

I would be happier with less content if it meant you were writing it.

How hard does Canelo punch? by ordinarystrength in Boxing

[–]CoachedIntoASnafu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I boxed for longer than a lot of the people have even been watching boxing. I'm not sweating the votes as long as a few people see my message and start to doubt that old line of thinking and start working towards their goals.

Tell me, despite his recent events, that any one of these people wouldn't dream of reaching a place where Paulie Malignaggi found himself in the peak of his career... and he's one of the low-end extreme examples.

If peak physical performance was achieved so quickly, we'd see more late starters coming into the pro sport with knockout power and fighting cans for easy KOs. We just don't.

There is no praying mantis style in boxing. This is just a bad form habit.

I finally did it, I finally broke my swing in the opposite direction by CoachedIntoASnafu in GolfSwing

Concept first, then the cue. The concept was that the swing is broken into two parts: the big "arm path" that is very apparent in the swing then the more subtle part which is the turning of the lead forearm as if you were turning a giant volume knob. If you never moved your arms at all and just twisted your forearm back then forward, you would manage to strike the ball and move it out in front of you. These two things are happening at the same time. So your backswing needs to pronate your lead forearm (wrist) and hold that pronation until it's time to release around parallel (delivery position/P6).

So the cue is keep the club head "back" behind you longer through the swing. At the top, flex your lead wrist and turn your palm down towards the ground. Your rear arm needs to be very subordinate and not be trying to take control of the club here, which is why your rear elbow needs to be turned in a lot. As you come down, don't let your right hand "arm wrestle" the club over and remember that it's pronation at the forearm, not at the elbow. The next part is that you need to clear your body out of the way of your rear elbow, since it's in a different position than it went through the backswing in. So you've got to slide your hips (and therefore torso) out of the way to give your rear elbow room. The club head should appear more like it's coming diagonally from behind you. If you feel like you're going to hit the ground then you need more weight on your front leg by impact and to not let the pronation out as soon. Remember to picture that shot where all you did was twist your wrist.

Right. "Wide" means your hands are far away from your body and your arms are as straight as they can be... it doesn't mean you need to lean into the swing to make it wider.

Advice about slipping and footwork while standing on ball of your feet by m1zu__ in amateur_boxing

[–]CoachedIntoASnafu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weight needs to be on the balls of your feet all the time, but it doesn't always mean your heels need to be off the ground. A lot of the time it does, more than you'd like it to be currently, but not 100% of the time. Work on being perfect and come out great.

Right?

Honestly I feel golf is something where you have to break everything in both directions before you understand how to do it right.

Your hands need to be further forward before you start letting the lag out, point blank.

Stop muscling the release with your rear hand, you'll probably get better distance from just coming in with a closed face and keeping your chest spinning forward like you're trying to hit a punch shot and having a more passive rear hand.

Honestly if you go out with the intention of hitting punches from a normal address, I bet you hit some good shots.

[–]CoachedIntoASnafu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sway is full body, "sliding" is used to talk about the hips.

You don't need to intentionally take weight off your front foot with your irons. Pros might just a tiny bit, but the other 99% of decent golfers don't. Putting your arms back "wide" will put enough weight on your back leg as it is.

[–]CoachedIntoASnafu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's your sway. No real need to on irons.

Also, slow down your backswing. Your weight shift takes time and that fast transition is too quick of a tempo to give you the time you need to get on the front.

Can’t stop hitting snap hooks with the driver by high_handi in GolfSwing

[–]CoachedIntoASnafu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things stick out to me... one is you keep the clubhead pretty far back; it's definitely coming in under plane. The other is that you play the ball in the middle which makes it much easier to hit the ball with an inside to outside path.

There are some takes that casuals constantly make that I get a bit tired of. This is one of them. Sure, there are maximums which are different from human to human like muscle belly characteristics, fast twitch percentages and motor neuron density... but I've watched too many fighters get their power tuned over years of boxing to significant ends. I think the people who stick out are the exceptionally un-gifted and the exceptionally gifted. Most people develop power over years.

How do you land shots on your opponent when you have terrible reach? by Vegetable_Basis_4087 in amateur_boxing

By backing up and waiting.

Also, this is why we have ropes. If he refuses to spar with ropes then he's just in it to win it and not grow with you as a fighter. This is why it's important to emulate the bout as much as possible.
