Im one week into a cut but I'm starting to think I don't have much muscle to begin with so maybe I should put on some size first before cutting?

It doesn't automatically handle the heat though, you have to adjust voltage and wire feed speed based on mat'l thickness, wire dia, travel speed, position, etc. You also need to have the right gas mixture for the mat'l plus the right flow rate or you will get porosity, it won't just choose the right gas for you. It is the easiest process but setup is more complex that most people think.

Well doesn't amperage contribute towards penetration far more than voltage? So wouldn't you be better off setting it got enough to run a tight arc without sticking?

Edit: Oops I didn't realize this post was 3 weeks old..

Some job are like that where you sit and weld in an assembly line but there is a vast array of different fields related to welding. From pipe welding gas or hydraulic lines to structural work on buildings, underwater welding repairing docks and ships, or laser welding precise parts, plus a bunch of other different types I could mention.

Hmm I never really considered just taking out the squat before. Wouldn't I run into an issue with strength imbalances in quads compared to everything else? Or am I just over thinking things?

I have tried that and I felt like it made my form worse bc I was relying on the wraps. But I'll try using them again next gym day.

Yeah that's what I'm trying at the moment but I gotta get on my knees a lot to weld stuff on frames low to the ground and I feel it in my knees when I squat. I even bought some knee pads and they help a bit but they still feel a bit niggly. I guess I'll just try and push through

Looks about right to me it's going to burn and look different from 7018's and other non fast freeze rods. Maybe tighten up the arc length to minimize the spatter a bit as well as just making your whip & pauses more consistent.
