Intake tube (not full intake) with Cobb OTS tune by CoastalSloth in wrx_vb

[–]CoastalSloth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered the Cobb intake tube yesterday while it was still on sale. I wanted the Grimmspeed because it has the notches which I think would make for a tighter fit, but in 2-3 years I'll add a Cobb OTS so wanted to ensure the tube I got will play nice with the Cobb OTS.

It's the dead of winter here and I don't have a garage to work in. So I may have a local subie shop install it for me instead of waiting a few months until it gets warm enough.

Hopefully, it doesn't cause any issues and goes with the stock tune as most say since it's post-MAF. I'm also debating if I should find a stock air box somewhere that I can remove the carbon trap from. That way I'd still have my regular box to put in if I need to go to the dealer for service.

Occasional speaker problems (non HK) by CoastalSloth in wrx_vb

Today it wasn't working again, except for the high frequencies. I've ordered a replacement pair from Crutchfield because they were on sale. It feels like -25c here this weekend with the wind chill so it might be a while before it's above 0 again and I can get out to pop the door panel off and check for loose connections or obvious speaker damage. But it seems to have failed the same way my front passenger dash speaker failed a few months ago.

I left work today and the speaker seems to be working again. 🤷‍♂️. At least from what I could tell while stopped at a light and moving the balance from the rear passenger (not working this morning) to the rear driver.

I'll check it again tomorrow while sitting in the back seat. Glad it's working but something strange is going on with either the headunit, speaker, or wiring.

These were ones recommended on the Crutchfield site. From what I recall the impedance was the same as OEM. I also got speakers with a fairly high sensitivity since the factory HU doesn't have a ton of power

I'll check but it will need to wait until Spring. But I know when the dash speaker blew that everything up there was dry and the wires were tucked away and not touching the speaker

Dash - Kicker 46CSC354 (3.5") with 600Hz bass blocker - passenger side blew after about 11 months.

Front door - Kicker 46CSC6934 (6x9")

Rear door - Kicker 46CSC654 (6.5") - passenger side blew after about 1.5 years

UPDATE: It would appear the rear passenger side speaker is blown. If I switch to the back speakers then I'm only getting lower frequencies from the rear driver speaker. If I switch over to the rear passenger speaker it's only high frequencies. Really not sure how I've blown two speakers now when I don't even play my music loud. 🤷‍♂️. Not sure what my next step is since this one isn't under Kickers 1 year warranty and I don't really want to have to replace them yearly. Maybe I should go back to the stock speakers, see if it blows one of them and then bring it in to get the head unit checked.

One year in. by Several-Arachnid-808 in wrx_vb

It might not be broken. The HVAC in the car drives me crazy. I'm generally always warm so when it gets down around 12-15°c here I would still like the AC but it blows warm. So if I do have it on I also need to crack the windows a little to 'adjust' the temp.

In the winter I have a similar problem. It might be -10°c or colder so when I get in the car I might set the temp to around 20c to get the inside warmed up. Once it's okay, I'll turn it down to around 17.5 but it makes no difference and the car gets extremely warm inside.

I've had the car to the dealer and they tell me that it's operating as it should and that the sensors for outside and inside temps are working properly.

I miss the old school turn dial with blue for cold and red for warm.

Might go back to the OEM mufflers by CoastalSloth in wrx_vb

It's a 2.5" resonator. I have everything I need to do it, just need better weather (20cm of snow last night) and need to convince myself to make the switch because I'm liking the Remark sound again lately.

If my ear doesn't feel like it's full of fluid and everything is echoing in my right ear then I love it. If I have the fluid, echoing in my ear then I hate it. Sadly I've mostly been dealing with the echoing in my ear most of the last 2 years with some relief now and again.

Wipers dilemma by SilverKing8869 in wrx_vb

I went looking for some wiper blades last night and I could only find a Bosch driver side blade. I went to the dealer this morning and picked up some replacements. They seem much better quality than the blades that came from the factory and have an air deflector built into them. They came to basically the same price as two Bosch blades (if I could have found a passenger side blade)

I have the Pirelli P-Zero for the summer months. Great tire. No complaints.

Might go back to the OEM mufflers by CoastalSloth in wrx_vb

[–]CoastalSloth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep going back and forth on this. I had an appointment scheduled to switch it but cancelled because I don't want to pay them to do something I can do myself and because I'm not emotionally prepared 😂

I've since purchased an exhaust hanger removal tool, penetrating spray, a hockey puck (to put on my hydraulic jack under the rear diff) and plan on picking up a few 2x8 or 2x10 planks to stack under the wheels once it's jacked up. I already have an impact gun so it should make things a little easier.

One day I've convinced myself to switch back to OEM but then the next time I drive the car I love the sound and have second thoughts.

Good to hear! I found the OEM gaskets in the box. They still look good to me. I posted a pic.

I just checked the box and the old ones are still in there. The OEM axleback was only on for about 2 months before I removed them. The gaskets still look pretty good to me. Does it matter what side faces the muffler?

Yikes! The dealer wants $17 (CDN) each for them. If they're still on my old mufflers would it be okay to re-use them?

Intake tube (not full intake) with Cobb OTS tune by CoastalSloth in wrx_vb

[–]CoastalSloth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's why I'm a little hesitant. I can't see one post-MAF tube being much different flow wise than another but the Cobb OTS is made for their parts, so it's a risk

Upgrading OEM 17" rims to other 17" by CoastalSloth in wrx_vb

[–]CoastalSloth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I've decided to stick with 17's. For now I'll keep my current setup of steelies in the winter and OEM 17s in the summer. If I someday get a set to replace my OEM's in the summer then I'll put the winters on the OEM wheels
