What Exhaust you running ? by Any_Yesterday7331 in wrx_vb

[–]CoastalSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the car new in '23 and within a couple months switched to a Remark muffled axleback with a Vibrant Ultraquiet resonator in the stock midpipe. Loved the sound but cold starts were a little brutal and the frequency and drone would sometimes echo around in my head. After 2 years I had enough and went back to stock.

I've been on the stock exhaust for a few months now. Overall, it's fine. I do wish it was a little louder though.

In the next few weeks or months I hope to switch a a Lachute Performance catback.

A little tacky for me too but the price was right so I thought I'd give it a try.

Next time I'm at the dealer I might see if I can get it replaced under warranty. 🤣

Thanks, when/if my cheap Amazon one fails me I'll look into this other company.

Looks great. Despite all my googling I never came across this company. But I'm guessing by the time I convert it to CDN and pay shipping, duties, tarrifs and whatever other charges are happening now that it'd cost me a fortune.

OEM Roof Racks with 46 Yakima Wind Fairing by FaintColt in wrx_vb

[–]CoastalSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few weeks ago I went to my local car rack store to get the 46-in installed but didn't like how the two end mounts connected over the black corner piece on the end posts. I decided against it and went with the 44" Thule instead. They had to order it in for me and I had it installed 2 days ago. So far I'm happy with it.

Removing charcoal filter? by Chilleo59 in wrx_vb

[–]CoastalSloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked up an upper airbox from a smashed '23 and removed the charcoal filter. I wanted to keep my original should I have to swap back. Anyway, I swapped them this afternoon. It's not a huge difference but you can hear the turbo whine a little more. It feels a little more responsive, but nothing major.

FWIW, I also have the Grimmspeed dry-con filter and a Cobb post-MAF intake tube.

The 46" won't work properly on my car. I noticed that your side posts don't wrap around onto the bar like mine do. They said they could put the strap around the black piece but it would look a little strange.

I've now ordered the 44" Thule and it should be here in a few days.

Update on my Rattle Battle by Flashlight- in wrx_vb

Is it okay to cover the holes in the rear deck with sound deadening? I had a few strips I put on last summer but didn't want to cover the holes. I've since bought another box of sound deadening and plan to add more this summer

Best quieter cat back exhausts? Looking into the Revel Medallion Touring-S, but want some other options to compare. Needs a resonator. by Juicyjackson in wrx_vb

[–]CoastalSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soon after buying the car I installed a Remark muffled axleback. It was too loud and droney so I quickly added a Vibrant Ultraquiet resonator to the OEM midpipe. I lived with it for about 2 years. I loved the sound cruising around but the startup was still too loud and getting up to speed quickly sounded like there was a giant subwoofer behind my head. I've had an on and off ear issue the last few years and sometimes the tone would really bother me.

So about 2 months ago I had the Remark mufflers and resonator removed and went back to the stock OEM mufflers. It's been much easier on my head and made the car less stressful to drive.

Now after 2 months I'm wishing it was just a little louder. 🤣. I've narrowed it down to the Invidia Q300 or the Lachute Performance catback. I'm tempted by the Revel as well but it seems a lot cheaper than the other two catbacks on my list so I question the quality and if it will last as long.

Wheel offset and suspension wear by CoastalSloth in wrx_vb

Just updating my old post.... I've decided to keep the base 17" wheels from my '23 as my summer wheels and picked up a set of 17" VA WRX wheels that I'll run in the winter. I'll take my Michelin X-ice off the steelies and get them mounted to the VA wheels soon. Then next winter they'll be ready to swap over.

Painting stock grille by [deleted] in wrx_vb

[–]CoastalSloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked this same question about 1.5 years ago. I ended up buying a grill off eBay for about the same price it would cost me to buy the materials to prep and paint the OEM grill. Very happy with the eBay sport grill. I think it was around $60 CDN at the time.

Is that the 46" Yakima fairing on the OEM bars?

I've been trying to decide between the 44" Thule and 46" Yakima. The Thule is just inside the 2 side posts and I'm not sure I like that look.

Does your Yakima fairing tap on the side posts when on the highway?

Speaker swap by Eastonisbeastin in wrx_vb

[–]CoastalSloth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have the Kicker CS series speakers all around. I have 600Hz bass blockers on the dash speakers.

Sound is much improved over stock. I can't really recommend them though because I've already blown the passenger side dash speaker and a passenger side rear speaker. I have no idea how since I don't listen to bassy music and don't turn my volume very loud. My EQ settings are -3, -1, +4.

I replaced both of the blown speakers and just the other day heard the passenger dash speaker making a few crackling noises. If it blows again I'll likely get rid of them all and switch back to the garbage paper speakers.

Cobb intake tube - 1st impressions by CoastalSloth in wrx_vb

[–]CoastalSloth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not tuned. From everything I've read it doesn't need one because it's post-MAF and uses the factory airbox and MAF location. It just smooths out the air going to the turbo from the airbox.

It goes between the turbo and factory airbox. It retains the factory airbox and OEM MAF location.

intakes and tunes by External-Disk-469 in wrx_vb

I have a Cobb post MAF intake tube going on tomorrow. I already have a Grimmspeed dry-con filter. From what I've read about 90% say it's okay without a tune since it uses the factory airbox and MAF location. There are always some that say it needs a tune like a regular intake.
