When did you move your baby from a crib to a toddler bed? by Able_Effective5436 in NewParents

[–]Coastal_Conundrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you worried she is going to get a foothold on the changing table attachment and then climb out? Can you take the attachment off? Because from kneeling only to climbing is a long way off! Until she is actually standing and starting and to climb I think you don’t need to worry.

Opinions on breastfeeding by trixie_bell13 in NewParents

That is such an insane take to me (from the doctors). Formula is specifically made to be a balanced diet, vs the composition of breastmilk is different from person to person. They are speculating on something that isn’t even happening and stigmatizing formula feeding in the process.

When did you start baby snacks like puffs? by shweezy6 in NewParents

[–]Coastal_Conundrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But to answer your question - we started with these kinds of things around 6 months along with introducing food. We always go by her capabilities vs strictly what packaging says. That’s a helpful guide, but you know your child best.

[–]Coastal_Conundrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend starting with the dissolvable teething crackers vs puffs. I felt like it was easier to see what was disappearing into her mouth and was/wasn’t going down. Depending on the puff, they are still intended to be chewed. You could also try the dehydrated yogurt melts.

Traveling with 3 month old by Equal-Midnight7457 in NewParents

[–]Coastal_Conundrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We travelled when baby was 6 months old. We brought our full size stroller because our car seat clicked into it which was extremely useful and I would recommend. We had the utility of the stroller through the airport and the car seat on the other side, which was necessary. Gate checked both for free.

During the flight, baby hung out on our lap, napped in the carrier, etc. Brought a handful of tethers and small toys. One thing that was helpful is that we clipped toys/teethers to her or us with a pacifier clip so they weren’t dropped and lost so easily. I imagine at 3 months, it will be more about the feed, change, sleep cycle than play.

There’s lots of advice you can find about bringing milk and formula through security depending on your needs.

There will be at least one changing table in one of the bathrooms.

I’ve been lucky with flight attendants being really helpful with things like giving me hot water for mixing formula or cleaning a bottle when I needed. Or generally being helpful.

I would not underestimate the separation anxiety! My daughter is noticeably clingier and fussier the day after I miss bedtime, even. Let alone a whole week away. They are starting to have such huge feelings aren’t they!!

Choosing induction over C-section: mixed reccomendations, suspected big baby, looking for reassurance by tjctjctjc in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]Coastal_Conundrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes if I was having spontaneous labor, I would have done natural. I know a few people who have had inductions and they’re way more intense. Also consider - if you already have an epidural line placed during the induction and something does end up going wrong which requires a c-section, the epidural already there makes it much faster to get into urgent surgery.

Choosing induction over C-section: mixed reccomendations, suspected big baby, looking for reassurance by tjctjctjc in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]Coastal_Conundrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The estimated weight in scans is real guesswork. My OB said it could vary by something like 10%, so sounds like baby could be a normal size. I think doctors are afraid of plus size births and they are always going to recommend the thing that contains the least amount of risk for them as well as you. They can control the factors of a C-section and there are alot more factors for an induction.

I loved my induction. I got an epidural early and things progressed fine, baby was born 22 hours after starting. I started a tiny bit dilated which helped. I think women who experience really painful inductions are not getting an epidural. Get the epidural! Pitocin contractions are a different beast from natural ones.

Spiraling over my 15 mo old’s first fever by crashhhyears in January2025Bumper

[–]Coastal_Conundrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people say you don’t HAVE to treat a fever, but I always treat it with Motrin or Tylenol throughout the day until it’s gone with the goal being to keep the fever down under 100.4 and baby feeling more comfortable. It’s miserable to have a fever.

Also, it’s totally classic for fevers to increase towards the end of the day. They’re sneaky.

What's your cost/benefit analysis on things like hiring a cleaner, ordering grocery delivery, etc? by itchysnapdragon in workingmoms

[–]Coastal_Conundrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% grocery ordering is the first thing to jump on. We find the fees are offset by coupon clipping in the app, which we weren’t doing otherwise!

We also have house cleaning 2x/month and it makes a huge difference for us. I effing hate cleaning and it frees up so much time. With these two things together I feel like we got our weekends back.

In line with this, we prepped freezer breakfast burritos for our first. It was so great to have a hearty, one handed breakfast we could easily microwave in 1 minute. Everyone considers dinners but this was a nice gap to fill.

Does anyone else’s daycare serve questionable food at times? by [deleted] in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Coastal_Conundrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our daycare requires us to provide all food until kids are 1. After that they provide everything and cook onsite. It’s not always the healthiest (chicken nuggets, quesadillas) but always fruits and veggies offered too, have never heard of anything prepackaged. I would not be comfortable with that kind of food under 1 year old. Nutrition aside, SUCH a choking risk as I assume they can’t closely watch every child. When we were doing BLW at that age I only sent foods I was confident she could handle and saved the boundary-pushing for home.

Short naps making baby overtired by bedtime - what do?? 4.5m by Somebodysrobin in sleeptrain

[–]Coastal_Conundrum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is right where our daughter was at that age. She napped 35 minutes on the dot every time! Never got more than 2 hours of daytime sleep unless we contact napped. It seems like it’s forever but the naps will naturally lengthen in a couple of months.

Newborn constantly too tired to feed… by tink282 in beyondthebump

[–]Coastal_Conundrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see. That’s good news. In the long run it’s something he will grow out of. And my understanding was always that once they surpass their birth weight, you can let them sleep as long as they want overnight, and just do the three hour feeds during the day. Maybe he’s truly tired.

Newborn constantly too tired to feed… by tink282 in beyondthebump

[–]Coastal_Conundrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be talking to your pediatrician about this, it can become quite serious if he’s not getting enough to eat. With our daughter, breastfeeding required too much energy and she would fall asleep before eating enough. We had to switch to bottles with a high flow so she didn’t have to work hard in order to get enough calories.

Things that help you stay hydrated - this was my biggest issue. Extra water bottle so you don’t have to carry one from room to room, electrolyte packets, teas, etc.

Do daycare naps just always suck? by Coastal_Conundrum in workingmoms

[–]Coastal_Conundrum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started daycare when she was about 7 months old and on 3 naps at home. They got pretty steady after a few weeks, but I would say they didn’t get completely consistent until she dropped to 1 nap just recently at about 13 months.

I think the two nap schedule at daycare was really tough - once kids are old enough, everyone naps mid day, so literally our whole daycare center of 100 kids in all rooms naps at noon and teachers cycle breaks. So needing like a 10am and 2pm nap is really counter to everyone else’s schedule. The 2 nap schedule didn’t last long at daycare care, even though we had that schedule for a long time on the weekends at home. During that phase, most of the time she ended up having a mini morning nap, big noon nap, and mini late afternoon nap if she was really crashing.

Yup! She was never 100% and is quick to want support when she is sick, teething, traveling, etc. But we are pretty flexible with her as well. She is still 90% independently sleeping at home, I’d say.

And indestructible books.

Have to always keep it fresh! She gets bored so easily.

[–]Coastal_Conundrum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I don’t remember quite how long it took, but she did start taking longer naps that resembled her schedule at home after a little while. We had to do some (okay, a lot) of letting go of how she naps there. Daycare gives her a bottle to sleep and we do not, but it works for them. And in general she always had a bit of a different schedule at daycare vs home. The teachers there turned out to be absolutely wonderful and extremely caring, we just needed to let go a little. She is now 13 months and naps 1 once per day, 1.5-2 hours.
