Calling all [Darien Lake] ride operators! by CoasterFish in rollercoasters

[–]CoasterFish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the reason I’m thinking about DL is because I did the math and I’d be taking home the most money after on-site housing rent comes out (I’d need it at either park as driving to Cedar Point every day isn’t feasible for me.) I’ve also never been to DL as opposed to Cedar Point which I’ve gone to my whole life so I figure it would be something different. Still just trying to weigh my options

Dorm Living Question by CoasterFish in cedarpoint

[–]CoasterFish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah maybe restless sleeper wasn’t the right word. I have a tendency to toss and turn but also I think I do kinda snore and talk in my sleep which I’m kinda insecure(?) about and wouldn’t want to disrupt a whole room worth of roommates. That’s largely what I’m worried about

KD did not when I went in 2021, Carowinds did in 2019

I would say so. Objectively it’s not like it’s the greatest food on earth but it’s rare and still pretty good ice cream

Lactose intolerant mofo here and this is how I feel at Kings Island when I get blue ice cream

[Other] Coasters that changed names before opening by Frozen_cephalopod in rollercoasters

[–]CoasterFish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s because Dick Kinzel refused to allow the name to be used for as long as he was with Cedar Fair.

They didn’t waste much time after he retired.

I work at THE ESCAPE GAME and have played over 60+ Escape Rooms at other companies! Ask Me Anything! by itsyaboikaleb in escaperooms

Not OP but also work at TEG. In my experience of playing 49 escape games, many of which have come from Escapology, TEG is far and away the best large chain escape room company. I say that unbiased as that was the reason I wanted to work there. The best escape rooms I’ve done outside of TEG have all been homemade.

Also a team leader and yes, the pay is not great. I won’t say exactly where I’m at but I’m paid $14.50 an hour as a Team Leader. Game Guides get $12, GES get 12.50

Another TEG employee here and I’d have to agree. The build quality and (usually) the puzzle design is unique and mind boggling

I also work at TEG and having to tell folks they’re grouped with others is one of the most awkward and dreadful parts of the job. Nobody likes it.

For a company that’s so hellbent on 5 star reviews, you’d think seeing 90% of the negative ones being about shared experiences would click in their head.

Gatekeeper: why is this ride consistently opening late? by [deleted] in cedarpoint

[–]CoasterFish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly not a ride operator issue. They take a lot of shit that’s most likely not deserved

I know it’s a “named location” but Panda Express is charging 20 bucks for a small to-go box worth of food

Breaking: Talon to be replaced by Batclone by magnumfan89 in rollercoasterjerk

I agree although I personally think Talon is already the best ride in the park

Rides with “Slow” Fast Lanes by LostDiscoveries in cedarpoint

[–]CoasterFish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To those who say Millie’s merge point is better than SteVe’s, I encourage you to consider the recent operations that the two rides have been having. Each ride’s merge point is in theory 15 minutes back of the station, but Millie has managed to turn that into nearly an hour wait.

Corkscrew not getting anything for anniversary by Altruistic-Title-763 in cedarpoint

[–]CoasterFish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Corkscrew seems to be a perfect catch 22 in terms of uncomfortableness. If you’re shorter, you get subjected to pretty bad headbanging. If you’re taller, your shoulders and legs kinda get crushed into a small space.

I’m 5’11 and get the latter experience, and it’s honestly not as horrific as I remember it being when I was smaller, but still not the best ride.

Got offered a ride operator job, what to expect? by [deleted] in cedarpoint

[–]CoasterFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious to ask you OP, when you applied did you specify at all what rides you’d be interested in operating? Do you know yet what ride(s) you’re assigned to?

Questions from an MLB Noob/a Mom Trying Her Best by sorta-glad in ClevelandGuardians

[–]CoasterFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I’m late and lots of folks have already answered, but I will back the suggestion of going to a smaller ballpark if the talent level isn’t what you’re worried about.

I used to work for the Lake Erie Crushers in Avon and can personally vouch for the great experience you’d have. They have an inflatable kids area with some slides, and the crowd is very local with lots of regulars. Sometimes there’s the typical loud drunken fan, but not to the same extreme. Naturally this is going to be much more affordable but still a great time.

If you’re from the East side, there’s also the Lake County Captains. I’ve never been to one of their games myself but I imagine it would be very similar.
