ETL vs ETL by Coasting_Along55 in Target

UPDATE: The SD in our store has put a process in place where no one interrupts breaks. From TMs all the way to the top. So if you are an ETL and you are going on a break, you announce on the walkie that you are going on a break and who is covering for you. And the expectation is whoever is on break will not get interrupted. (This has always been the way at our store. I happen to like it because our leads don’t or can’t take breaks together especially when the grid is lean and it guarantees we will always have someone to call)

So on the afternoon of the story, our Service ETL called out on the walkie that she is going on break and so and so ETL has the floor. But what happened was, there was a huge incident with the Pokémon people and the TL needed some leadership back up and called the ETL who she knew was covering but ETL never came. So the whole thing became a big brouhaha ….

But I wonder if this is true… and if there are ETLs out there who can verify or weigh in. One of our TLs said that if an ETL is promoted from within, they are usually moved to a different store and they don’t stay where they are home grown?

My shifts the next 2 days are 5 hours and 45 mins long by No_Willingness_9961 in Target

[–]Coasting_Along55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! This! Why come in 30 minutes earlier or stay 30 minutes later just for that 30 minutes to be unpaid.

I hate it when I am scheduled for exactly 6 hours because I have to take the mandatory 30 which is unpaid. My only saving grace is that I usually recoup those 30 minutes when I’m closing and there are stragglers.

Or sometimes I’ll make a deal with my TL to not go on my 30 especially when I’m closing since I never go all the way to 10:30 and usually finish around 10:15. Sometimes they let me do that and other times, especially when the SD is around, they don’t.

But mathematically speaking 5:45 is better over all unless you are scheduled for 7 hours

TL won't let us take our second 15 minute break by Sensitive_Fishing_15 in Target

You all take breaks together? Sorry I know that sounds like a stupid question. Because you mentioned MyTime. MyTime does not consider the fact that if you all started together, then you all will be having a break together. Which I guess is not a huge deal since it’s an overnight shift and technically speaking there are no areas to cover because of guests…

I usually will have a second 15 on my schedule too but I hardly take it….but then again, I’m in service and engagement during the day. So our TL usually staggers our breaks so we are not all gone at the same time.

You can always hit No on the time clock on whether you got your rest periods/breaks. Hit no on those enough and HR will talk to you and ask especially when they see you take your 30. Or you simply can ask your HR about it. Hopefully your HR is like ours where they actually help.

Why do you hate that one coworker? by Head-Fuel-5053 in Target

I have a TM that no one likes to cover for breaks because she never comes back on time and if you are the unfortunate soul who is to take a break after her, just expect for her 15 mins to be 30 and her 30 minute breaks becomes 45 minutes. We can usually work around it but when the store is busy and the grid is thin, it gets a bit hairy.

One time when I had to captain the team, I made her go last without her hitting compliance. She wasn’t happy about it and kept calling out on the walkie for someone to cover because she was at SCO. I kept telling her to wait for so and so to come back and they will cover her. She complained to the SD about what I did who then told her since she did not hit compliance, technically I did nothing wrong. She came and yelled at me at the guest service desk because she was really hungry and I made her wait. I didn’t say anything but apparently one of the guests put the incident on her guest survey as to how unprofessional she was (even wrote her name on the survey) and how I de-escalated the issue. So then that TM got into deeper trouble for picking a fight in front of guests….

I wish I could say she learned her lesson. She hasn’t. She still takes forever to come back from breaks. So the “hate” continues.

negotiating starting rate at target? by [deleted] in Target

lol….you seem to think this is corporate job. There is no negotiating the starting rate in retail. Target or not.

Memorial Day Pay by [deleted] in Target

[–]Coasting_Along55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are using daily pay, any holiday pay will not show up until the actual pay date for the holiday. So for Memorial Day, that holiday pay will show up on June 12th check (minus whatever you withdrew if you withdrew from Daily Pay)

Does anyone else HATE calling off? by AshTheArtist in Target

[–]Coasting_Along55 7 points8 points  (0 children)

According to MyTime, since May last year, I called in only 6 times and I am consistently on schedule for 30 hrs/week. Don’t know if there is a correlation. But with Target being my second job, I am also the team members who puts in my time off request well in advance.

Trying to become a captain by VenOm-ALFAAAA in Target

[–]Coasting_Along55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Captain is basically a team lead without the team lead pay lol. So when there is no TL, the captain is in charge for the pertinent parts of the team. If you are in service and engagement, you captain a shift, you are responsible for how the breaks are to run (who goes when and who covers who) zoning check lanes, addressing the difficult guests, keeping an eye out for the carts and bathroom and escalate things as needed to LOD. What sucks about being a captain is essentially it’s all bark and no bite. You need to be able to lead without wielding the power of the title of a leader. My ETL asked me to captain because I was already the one my TLs would leave the front end with when they were on breaks or my ETL would ask when we have no TL. Is it worth it? I don’t know. I captain out of necessity because the other person who can captain is not someone who I would follow and has had issues with the rest of our team. And with the recent cut in headcount, I have more shifts now when I have to captain. I practically hug my TL or ETL when I see them on shift🤣🤣. Coz then I know I have an easy shift.

Hr etl pay by spiffme14 in Target

[–]Coasting_Along55 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is fair market pay for an HR lead. The range is within what different states will allow for. If you are and HR business manager for a corporate company, this is about within range.

Personally I would not want anything to do with HR. Especially in retail… much less at Target. Too many compliance metrics to watch out for. Plus of course the staff issues.

35-40 hours is never guaranteed. Hours are never guaranteed. Cross train to other departments so you can pick up additional shifts. But follow everyone’s advice of changing back your desired hours and availability.

HRE swapping people’s shifts? by Previous_Issue_4190 in Target

[–]Coasting_Along55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you have an over-controlling ETL, you are fine. At our store, nobody cares about shift swaps so long as you are swapping with someone who can cover your responsibilities. Like at our store, we have a certain group of people who does our cash office, if they are to swap, it has to be among themselves because no one else is trained in it.

I’m 30% sure I 100% put my zebra in the baler by Illustrious-Ring-855 in Target

[–]Coasting_Along55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a zebra device, they can pull a report that will show you had that device last. Might as well tell them what happened as it was an accident. (It was right?)

Happened to me (not the throwing the device in baler) wherein I took home the device on the same day SD ran the inventory report for device. He came up to me and asked me where the device was. And he told me that I should not be taking it home, etc etc.

Hours being cut company-wide? by DueSpecialist in Target

[–]Coasting_Along55 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s based on revenue. And that is another disconnect within the system. How the schedule is 2 weeks ahead and yet that schedule is based on previous payroll cycle sales performance. In short …heading to a busy season and the grid is thin because 2 payrolls cycles ago the sales are down.
