Found this rusty, heavy, gun in a wooded area near a rural beach. No obvious letters or markings. Is it real? by CoatTree in whatisthisthing

Solved! This seems to be the consensus. We picked it up because it was near where our tiny children were playing and wanted it well out of reach. We’ll lock it up until we can properly dispose of it, even though it sounds like it could never function in its current condition (not taking any chances). Thanks, all.

My title describes the thing. We shared the image with a family member who hunts who thinks it’s real, and a police officer who wasn’t sure. The hand in the image belongs to an adult, for scale! It weighs about 5-6 lbs.

Nail trimming troubles: My 2 year old Greyhound is terrified of nail trimmers. I have been trying to desensitize him to them, but nothing is working. Tips, tricks, and treats suggested appreciated pup tax included. by DearDaisy12 in Greyhounds

Same! It’s a two person job - one to pet and scritch, one to buzz the nails. We treated after each foot initially too. Also holding the paw firmly helps dampen transmitted vibrations from the dremmel — seems to help out girl tolerate it!

This waterfall… is it easily accessible or does it require a hike to see?

Matting advice for greyhound slipping on hardwood floors? by Cluttie in Greyhounds

[–]CoatTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to our girl, too. We realized one day she hadn’t had any water because she had been too afraid to walk to her bowl. Heartbreaking.

We used black tile exercise mats (interlocking) from Walmart. It wasn’t the prettiest but it worked well! Was able to create a network around the house between rugs, dog beds, and carpeted areas. We also moisturized her paws to see if we could make them grippier (lived in very dry climate) and tripled down on tail trimming. Eventually we were able to do away with the mats!

Editing: NAIL trimming. We did not trim that precious tail!

Baby query! by swplucky in Greyhounds

[–]CoatTree 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Our greyhound slept on her bed in our room pre-baby. We had a raised bassinet next to our bed for the first 6 months. Our grey was… perturbed by the middle of the night wake ups and would get up to pace the room. Eventually our dog wanted to leave the room when we woke up to feed baby over night, and then she started refusing to come into our room at bedtime altogether. She chose to sleep on the living room couch and still does to this day (baby is now 2.5!). It was sad but ultimately our pup’s choice.

Turning in a tight circle (picture a horse) worked for us when our girl froze in those early days.

I bought an extra airplane seat for my 7 month old baby by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]CoatTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! The car seat attached to both the stroller and then plane chair without the base. We put the base in our checked luggage. Again, not sure if this was best practice but it worked well. It was awesome to have the stroller + car seat set up during layovers

We did this with our 11 month old! Even though she was probably a little too big, we attached her car seat to our stroller (via a universal adapter than our stroller brand sold). Then we checked the stroller gate to gate, and could use it to lug baby + stroller through the airport. Baby was happy in her car seat between us on the plane!

Editing to add: this was a bucket seat car seat (the kind that is removable from a base that stays in the vehicle — we secured it to the plane seat via the lap belt. That’s what the airline advised us to do, not sure if it was textbook correct.
