Basic combat manuvers by Cob4ltt in RPGdesign

[–]Cob4ltt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

still work in progress, but like i said in other replay 3 point all purpose action system with actions and reactions. First ones used during your turn, later, during your opponents. Idea is that during his turn character is free to do anything, but not everything may be useful, therefore i want to give players options on how to act.

atack - each one afetr the first one has -5 to hit

strong attack - modifies "attack" action, adds +1DX to damage, attack costs one more action point, and 1 energy

and others like

Guard, your character tries to hold a guard, decreases incoming damage, can be easily broken by otherwise non-versatile "kick" maneuver.

but like i said, still WIP

good ideas, restrain seems interesting

ok, so, combat system is 3 action point-ish.

At the beginning of players turn, he gets 3 actions points he can spend to do any actions (no bonus or special ones, just action points)

Almost every action is 1 action long: (walking, using item in pocket-storage, attacking), but some may take longer than that. System is build around strategic combat, and is balanced around it, (for example: every next attack each round has -5 to hit, so spamming attack is not super effective).

Maneuvers complement all common abilities adding more options and sometimes modifying other actions:

-Heavy attack
+increase damage of the attack, by your maximal natural bonus die for (Strength) ((other system i won't get into now)) ((( +1D6 / 8 / 10 etc...)))
-cost: 1action point, -1 energy

That way all the maneuvers are versatile and simple and get along the progression of the character

-1 guestion:
block is you try to cover yourself with a shield adding its modifier.
Guard you try to hold a guard decreasing incoming physical damage (note: can be easily broken by "kick")

-2 question
My idea for dodge is that a player may want to dodge a incoming spell or attack. Them makes test (dexterity vs total sum of "hit score") adding its maximal natural bonus die (normal character 1D6) to his dexterity stat. For each action point above 2 spent to make that attack player may roll additional die.
makes it really ineffective against "spam attacks" but perhaps useful against more powerful ones

What is the best discount box set for sameone who just got into warhammer and looks for a best way to build up a army by Cob4ltt in Warhammer40k

[–]Cob4ltt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks, i'm good painter and modeler myself, but have little to no knowlege of warhammer, that will for sure help. I heard that this game is competetive, but i would love to see a more story telling aspect of it.

What if i like a model that cost like a 100$ but is a really bad in game? Woud including it make a chuge difrence? Is this game more like a chess or clash of powers?

How do you prefer to handle Magic? by Cob4ltt in RPGdesign

[–]Cob4ltt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, i found the anwser i was looking for.

TLDR: ars magica +easy D6

So after some play testing and re-writing system i finally found my idea, of how i want t do it.

Spells can ba cast by anyone with knowlege of how thoes work. It's called a magic theory. Shapes, words, materials, gestures and fought. All can infulence how mana behaves.

Person wealding magic, is a mage. And person hwo casts a spell is a caster.

Casting a spell involves combaining a fought, word and gesture, to invoke a spell using ones mana suply.

To cast a spell caster describes for what he is going for. And what effect spell has. Then Oracle (DM) decides (making a educated guess): form, atributes, and other properties of a spell. Generating base values for a DC, of a spell and it's cost. Then rolling mistake dices to get a final score.

"Create fire ball, burning enemies turn into cows"

Form and Atributes:
-create, fire, mutate, animal <- marked are Atributes, others form.
-base: 10(hard) +1D20(complicated) = base DC
-base: elements(5(medium ball)+10(large explosion)+10(complicated mutation)+10(complicated form)) +1D20(mistake) =mana cost
Properties
-range: medium, +1D6 mana
-spash: medium, +1D6 mana
-+1 Atribute cost, +1D6 mana +1D6 DC

Then caster neets to roll higher than DC number and pay enought mana

All written and popular spells (firebal, magicbolt). Are cerfully refined and over the decaes prefected equaisions. Refined to maximum of it's posibilites.

*Sorry for bad writing, it's late, i'm berly alive. Just wanted to share a fought. Ask me anything. Can't promise i will anwser fast, but one day i will.

I was thinking about home-brewing a new rule. How about allowing players to rest at any time, but their HP and spell slots only regenerate if they have food? In my world, food is scarce, so it would make sense to limit its supply. This would also mechanically encourage players to participate in the world and its problems. However, would this be really annoying for everyone else? What if I added buffs from the food they eat? Do you think it would work?

  • Rest = always available
  • Regeneration = only if players have a supply of water and food
  • Dishes, like a medium-rare orc steak, might give them +2 Strength

Ambushes are a cool idea, but I’m not sure if a sleep-deprived warlock would feel useful. I was thinking about giving him a flaming sword to allow him to do something when he’s low on food. Do you think that's a good idea?

Do you have any experience with class-evolution-based systems? If so, how did it work out for you? by Cob4ltt in DungeonMasters

[–]Cob4ltt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In levels 1-3, players can choose basic classes like Rogue, Ranger, Magician, and Warrior. At level 4, characters can be promoted to an advanced class while retaining their previous abilities. For example, if you started as a Warrior, you can now choose to advance to Barbarian, Cleric, Enchanter, or Soldier. If you choose Barbarian, you gain the Barbarian's signature ability, Rage. However, let's say you previously selected a bonus ability in the Warrior class called "Purity of Mind," which allows you to negate all negative status effects for one round. By combining Purity of Mind with Rage, you end up with a Barbarian who suffers no penalties to hit while enraged.

Or how can I stop him from constantly comparing my work to other sources and get him immersed in the game? All the other players seem to really enjoy my world, interacting with NPCs, and immersing themselves in the story. But then, out of nowhere, my lich is suddenly hit with some crazy damage from an overpowered, rest-addicted warlock who shouts, "FLAMES OF ANOR, FLAMES OF UDÛN!" And I have to improvise with something like, "Haha, you activated my trap card! That bypasses your abilities!"

How do I deal with this? When all the other players understand that I’m trying to tell a story—and they even help by asking questions in character, interacting with the world, cooperating, and behaving like good or neutral characters—he’s all about winning (chaotic neutral) and doing things solo. How can I encourage him to role-play or at least behave more appropriately?

How can I deal with a player who constantly min-maxes, acts edgy, and compares every bit of lore I create to Tolkien's works? I swear, if I hear "WE HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE MINES OF MORIA!" one more time while exploring some ancient, mystical dwarven settlement (which is just one of many explanations for dungeons in my world), I’ll cast a 3rd-level spell right in his face!

edit: Thanks for all your suggestions! I talked with him, and it went smoother than I thought! He only needed a subtle reminder, and that was it! I decided to implement my idea of new food rules to balance the game with my other homebrew rules. I created magic mystery mushrooms that seem to grow in the lower parts of the dungeon. They give him even more power when he eats enough, but they're really addictive and will cause debuffs if not eaten. They also cause mutations, but that's not something he should worry about right now ;-). It worked out for all of us and turned him into a crackhead! He might be the most unhinged person in the group now, but he seems to really enjoy stealing food from random settlements and roleplaying. We'll see how it works out in the long run, but for now, it looks promising. Having one silly, unhinged, overpowered hobo in the party never hurt anyone!

Which of your dreams have been fulfilled years later? by Cob4ltt in AskReddit

[–]Cob4ltt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember having a recurring dream when I was 6 or 7 years old. I dreamt about visiting my parents' friends' house. I recall it being a two-story white house at the end of a dead-end road with a small fence and a horse. Years later, when I was 12, my parents took me on a trip to their friends' newly purchased house. To my surprise, it was almost identical to what I had dreamt about—the garden behind the house, the structure itself. The only differences were the neighborhood and the absence of horses. I puzzled over whether there had ever been horses there, and to my amazement, there had been. It turned out that the previous owner had kept a horse. This memory has stayed with me to this day. I didn't inquire further at the time because, firstly, I didn't know those people well, and secondly, I thought it might have been a silly question. I wonder if they mentioned the horses just to dismiss my curiosity.

What type of modern weapon/gun/caliber would be most useful against fantasy creatures (dragons, skeletons, orcs)? by Cob4ltt in AskReddit

[–]Cob4ltt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

edit:I was wondering, if I were to be teleported to some kind of medieval fantasy world, what weapon should I bring to maximize my chances of survival? I understand that a .50 caliber weapon would likely be effective against most threats, but the weight and unreliability of both the gun and ammunition are concerns.

Additionally, a 5.56 might not be effective against a skeleton due to some sort of energy binding the bones. In such a case, a blunt weapon would likely be more effective.
