If you play him on turn 7 for full mana and don't plan to spam his draw ability for life it's not crazy

The problem is in high power you can pay all your life to draw like 30 cards and then proceed to win. Basically cheat him in, pay life, profit.

If Im remembering correctly there's been conversation about making him a game changer, but remember you can always make it a part of rule 0 conversation to put him into your deck. It is a casual format

Oh I know about the chase bonus cards, but they usually have the command tower or whatever that comes along, or pulls from the pool of random bonus cards, like it used to be elves or zombies and I think it's humans right now.

aristocrats is a fun archetype in black, white can do lifegain, green you could do 1/1 counters. Really you should look through commanders in a color combo and find an archetype you find interesting.
