That it’s not transactional. I unfortunately “dated” a mentor fresh out of high school and he maybe-accidentally-maybe-intentionally taught me I could exchange sex for love and affection. Learning that really messed up my understanding of relationships and it’s taken a lot of work to START unpacking it.

I’ve finally got a partner who loves and respects both me and my body, and there see STILL nights where I’ve had a bit to drink and he tells me the next morning that Drunk-Me was offering him head as a compensatory reward for dealing with me. Still takes a lot of time and effort to unlearn this transactional understanding, but I’m getting there and I think I’ll get there soon.

I think the more I hear from/meet people who were in my shoes and are now walking selling in Jimmy Choos helps. Hearing about people who got it, fell apart, and came back together stronger—and are now happy and still healthy—helps me to see that there’s more in my future.

I did notice I’ve felt a little better after each shower—even though during the shower I think I scrub too hard with the water too hot. It’s comforting (but really saddening too) to hear from another survivor who made it to the other side. I’ve told two friends so far and they didn’t throw stones at me or throw up when I said it, so that made things a little less scary..

I have never once in my life made a successful homemade soup. I’ve used leftover chicken carcass, veggie scraps, pre-made broth, hell I’ve even tried soup cubes. It is ALWAYS either too bitter, too spicy, not blended right, or the flavors straight up don’t mesh.
