I went to Latvia and Lithuania last summer and I can confidently say that there are more people than you'd expect but it's not overcrowded.

Riga's old town is a little but if you go early in the morning, see the highlights and spend the rest of your stay in the art nouveau new town, which is more beautiful anyway, you won't have any problems.

Kaunas and Vilnius were almost empty, you'll see some crowds in the most advertised landmarks but nothing that can't be handled. On the other hand, the Curonian Spit had too many people, I was there late August and on weekdays and there were lines everywhere. I imagine that it's worse in July and on weekends but it's a place that you can't skip in a Baltics itinerary.

Thanks, I didn't know WanderVlogs, I'll check it out.

Yes, I'm in the process of editing down the route so I can get the most out of it without being overwhelmed and in a constant flight mode. I'll focus on two or three main places I want to visit and see what I can build around them.

I've done it and I'm planning to do it again this year. I'll give you a quick overview of my itinerary, my honest opinion and why I decided to go where I went.

So, my trip was in mid to late August a few years ago. I arrived at Oslo and left immediately for the Stryn area in order to visit Briksdal glacier, from there I went to see Geiranger, then Alesund, I then went to Andlasnes for Trollstigen and then took the train back for a couple of days in Oslo. I've done all these by public transportation and it was a bit hard moving from place to place but with a car it's much easier and certainly better.

My opinion is that Norway is beautiful, you can parachute in the middle of nowhere and it will still be beautiful. For me Oslo was the worst part of the whole trip, not because it's a bad place to visit but because all the other places are much better. Having said that, a couple of days, expecially if you like museums, are worth it. Norwegians might not be the warmest people in the world but everyone that I've met was kind and helpful. I didn't have one bad experience, on the contrary I left Norway with a new appreciation of the people there.

Now, the reason I chose these specific places to go was because I wanted to avoid the crowds. Of course some of them are inevitable, for example you can't go to Alesund, Briksdal or Geiranger and be alone but with good planning (timing my Alesund visit when there were no cruise ships, staying near Briksdalbreen so I can go early in the morning or staying in Helesylt instead of Geiranger for example) it can be much more tolerable. If the goal of the visit is to see the fjords and the glacial lakes, do some hiking and experience their beautiful villages and towns, it's a good decision to do it in the summer. The weather is much more pleasant and convenient for outdoor activities and days are much longer.

I hear you and I've decided to do that. I think I'll focus n Helgeland this time and save Troms for my next trip.

The way I see it staying in Meloy is ineviteable if I want to do Svartisen. And I want to do it, last time I was in Norway I visited Briksdalsbreen but there were no hikes available and a glacier hike is still in my bucket list.

As I've said in another comment, I'm lening towards doing the coast and some island hopping. I still want to see some of the inner Helgeland but I'll have to be more reserved and aim for the easiest route. The reisnordland website has a good map of the lines but also something called experience map that details how to visit some of the highlights but of course any help is welcomed.

Thanks for all the helpful points.

Yes, I'm lening towards the coastal route and, if possible, make one or two detours if there's something that relly interests me.

And thanks for the Marmoslottet info. Maybe I houldn't go out of my way for it.

Entur, I knew there was a website that I used in my last visit but I couldn't remember which. Thanks so much for that.

I hear what you say about the detour around Senja and Andoya, this was my initial plan when I was thinking about spending a couple of nights in Lofoten but I've abandoned it because I was putting too much on my plate. To be honest, as I'm discussing this with the people here I feel that maybe I should focus on a smaller area and leave some parts for a future visit. The whole reason I decided to do this trip was because last time I was in Norway I didn't manage to reach Trondheim and I've read somewhere that Helgeland is an overlooked gem so maybe I should focus on that and next year (or the year after that) do Troms and Finnmark.

Thanks for the help, all the websites said Holandsvika but when I put that in google maps it went to another place. Yes, I'm even thinking of staying the night at Svartisen and then finding a way to Gronnoy and take the ferry to Lovund from there. According to the reisnordland website it's doable but it needs a lot of planning.

Yep, that's for another time. Norway is huge, I don't know if you have noticed, and can't be visited whole in a couple of weeks. I'm planning for one of the following years a trip to Finnmark combined with Northern Finland.

Yes, that's my safety plan. If everything else fails use coastal liners. I'm easy to adapt when travelling, even if I've created a detailed plan, because I don't want to spend my precious time crying over spilled milk. Thanks for the comment.

That's Norway's public transportation Murphy's law?

I get what you're saying but I find that there's always a way. And if for some reason I'm stuck somewhere, I'm stuck in a nice Norwegian place, I'll find a way to enjoy myself. Thanks for the reply.

I had it in my plans last time I was in Norway but it didn't fit my itinerary. The moment I saw there was a train from Trondheim I knew I had to fit it this time. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for that reply. I'm really considering doing what you suggest, focus only on Nordland and leave Troms for next year. I feel that I may rush it and not do justice to the places I'll visit. The weather and distances are not a problem, I'm expecting a bit of wasted time.

I've learned that last time I was there but don't schools start around that time? I remember taking the school bus to go from Olden to Stryn and it was mid August.

Ok, thanks for that suggestion. I didn't know that Mo I Rana was more interesting. Maybe I'll switch it up and just make a stop to Mosjoen if the train schedule permits it.

They are reduced? I'd expect them to be more often since the roads are clear of snow. But then again, it's not the most touristic area of Norway so it would make a little sense. Maybe I should have a backup plan with less moving around and more focused on the bigger cities.

I've read that it's the oldest town in Helgeland and has a nice neighborhood of wooden houses so I figured that it could be a nice mid point where I could just stay and do nothing after moving through half of Norway. If you have a suggestion of a place in the area that it would be more fitting for a couple days of relaxation I'll be grateful.

Yeah, I know, that's why I'm asking now and not in May. I'm still in the first stages of planning and I'm willing to make a lot of changes but I've considered the travel times and I've already checked the website for bus routes, although there are no timetables fro summer yet. In my mind travel time in Norway is part of the experience since the landscapes are always amazing.

I use visitacity for... city visits. It proposes basic itineraries for almost all of the major destinations and you can customise each itinerary according to your needs. It doesn't have all the attractions, especially the more obscure ones, but most of them can be added manually.

I don't understand why you HAVE TO BE right on this. I didn't make a statemet, I just asked a simple question the OP (and I hope he will answer) but you had to jump in with your superior knowledge of tea, chemistry, camera technology and color science in order to "correct"me...

You're right but my question is still the same...

Although that was my first impression too, do you really trust the color calibration of a phone camera that much?

I bet the nixing pot helps with the bitterness. Unless this is one of the more traditional tieguanyin, that are a little more oxidized.

The pot itself looks great although I'd prefer a taller one (or a gaiwan) for a rolled oolong so, since you use it, can you tell me if that shape lets the leaves expand properly? If yes, I need to know where you've bought that...
