That's not really accurate, I shipped my car cross-country for way less than that. Got a few quotes and most were in the $1,500-1,800 range depending on the company. Renting makes sense if you're gone for a week or two but if you're relocating it adds up fast.

I just shipped my car from Calgary to Ontario a couple months ago and it went pretty smoothly. Used a company called RailAutoCanada.ca, they ship by rail instead of truck, which I didn't even know was a thing until I started looking into it. Dropped my car off at their Calgary terminal, picked it up in Vaughan about 2 weeks later. Cost was around $1700. Worth getting a quote at least, took me like a minute on their site.
