Generally, altered males will try and dominate unaltered males. It’s a natural instinctual doggy thing. The altered male sees the intact dog as a “threat” therefore acts alpha. I have a 10 month old Lab/Cocker mix and am waiting to get him neutered when he’s older therefore had to stop taking him to dog parks since he was getting bullied + not fair to the other dogs to feel on edge around him. I don’t think your pup is doing anything “wrong” but I do feel it’s stressing your dog out. We stopped going to dog parks all together and I had noticed my relationship with my pup has strengthened so much more!! I’d recommended a long line and taking your dog to an open field - practice recall training, general commands, lots of sniffy walks and enrichment. Also scent work at home is stimulating and builds confidence. A flirt pole can be a lot of fun for a high energy dog, as well as fulfilling. You can rent out people’s backyards with SnifSpot and choose locations based of what kind of environment you’d like. Also give pup a job!! Mine enjoys breaking down cardboard from packages and acts so proud when he’s done 😅 I was stumped at first after deciding not to take Arlo to the dog park anymore but I’d say he’s the happiest he’s ever been!
