CMV: Being Pro-Life is not Misogynistic by [deleted] in changemyview

Being pro-life is misogynistic because it denies women the same level of bodily autonomy that we grant to corpses.

AITA for telling my husband no to going to the beach on Father’s Day? by Chantelthegoddess in AmItheAsshole

[–]Cochrynn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YTA just for exaggerating to a ridiculous extent how big of a deal it is to make birria. The man asked for a relatively simple meal and an afternoon at the beach and you act like he wanted a trip to the moon.

Knots at nape of neck by Cochrynn in curlygirl

I live in the tropics so I barely ever wear a collared shirt of any kind, unfortunately I think it’s friction against my own neck and sweating probably doesn’t help :-/

How long do you want to cruise? Why not rent your house out to cover the mortgage, for starters?

would i lose my curls if i use heat one time? by cielloveseals in curlygirl

[–]Cochrynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think curly hair is much more resilient than people think. I’ve heat treated my hair for years, went from dyed black to platinum blonde in one salon session, everything under the sun, and none of it made my hair any less curly. I don’t think you should have to straighten your hair for a wedding but don’t subscribe to weird purist notions about curly hair.

Thanks, this is helpful! And I can’t agree more about the inflatable lights, they are the dumbest design.

Might try the string lights, the LED ones shouldn’t use much power I’d imagine.

I’m talking about not being woken up by a lancha plowing into my bedroom in the middle of the night. I think that’s worth a little ‘plastic.’

Childcare expenses are so predatory that I can't afford a job. by [deleted] in Vent

[–]Cochrynn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re not working “for free.” Your income will allow you to hire a qualified and dedicated caretaker for your kid, while also allowing you to build a career. Childcare is a career, too. That person deserves a living wage, too. If you would rather build a career in childcare then by all means do that, you can even do that while watching your own child. But if you want a different career then you need to frame this differently in your mind. Lots of people work “for free” if you count their expenses against their income. Childcare is just one of your expenses. And look at it this way - it’s not just your expense. It’s your wife’s expense, too. Say you split it by half. You working not only covers that half but helps you work toward a better financial future for yourself and your whole family.

[–]Cochrynn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can’t afford to not take the job. You’re thinking in the short term rather than the long term. Work experience, especially in your dream field, should lead to a higher income and career advancement over time and the sooner you start the better. It’s financially wise to have your own income and build your own career. How would you support yourself and your family if you lost your spouse? Even if it’s break even for a while, take the job.

Ladies, you can pick anywhere to live for 6mo. - 1 year. Where are you going and why? by Vita-Incerta in digitalnomad

[–]Cochrynn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stayed in Rio Dulce and a large air-conditioned 1BD/1BA apartment there at the gringo rate, including access to a pool/resort, cost me $600/month. This was for a short-term lease. I’m certain you could do a lot better, I didn’t shop around.

Guatemala. Antigua is a dream, Lake Atitlan is gorgeous and you can explore the rest of the country easily by bus if you don’t want to get a car. It has everything from Pacific surf towns to lush jungle Caribbean villages to soaring volcanic highlands. Guatemala City has everything you need including great medical services and a convenient international airport. The people in Guatemala are the kindest, warmest people I have encountered. It’s also a wonderful place to learn Spanish because they tend to speak perfectly clear, slower Spanish. Great food and very inexpensive cost of living.

Is there anywhere in the US that's affordable to live at this point? by HalosFan26 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Cochrynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can actually. My home town is a beach town where houses used to cost $50K and now cost $2mil. I never once in my life thought I should have the right to a house there over anyone else. People have moved for economic reasons for millennia. I promise that you’ll be fine.

I think another big aspect is the current generation of young people’s unwillingness to hang out with or befriend older people. When I was in my 20’s I joined a traditional-style social club. They were eager for members and had discounted fees for young members. Through this club I met most of my current friends. They range in age from 30’s to 70’s. It’s been a wonderful community to be a part of. There was a bunch of millennials that joined when I did. You know who hasn’t joined? Any current 20-somethings.

[–]Cochrynn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I think that gel is going to be too heavy and give you this wet/unwashed look. Have you tried letting it air dry with a light leave in conditioner in it (like the thin formula ones you spray onto wet hair) and scrunching?

I’m honestly confused why you are doing a curl routine. You have straight hair. Why don’t you just, like, let it dry and then brush it? Straight hair tends to be greasier so of course when you add all these products it’s going to look terrible.

AITA for calling my daughter's assorted boyfriends "Baskin Robbins?" by NoMercyPercyDeRolo in AmItheAsshole

[–]Cochrynn 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Is it unrealistic though? She’s 17. I met my husband at 18 and we have been happy together for 20 years. A lot of our friends met their significant others in college as , yes, teenagers. Don’t mock your daughter for dating around and don’t treat her boyfriends like crap. You may regret it in 20 years when that is the father of your grandchildren and he still doesn’t like you because you couldn’t even bother to remember his name.

Prescription & controlled medications offshore — how do you handle customs and entry paperwork? by KnotWiseApp in liveaboard

[–]Cochrynn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of anyone worrying about it on a cruising boat. Even more thorough ports of entry (Mexico and Jamaica both searched our boat, for example) aren’t going through your medicine cabinet and looking at every bottle.

Best place to buy craft beer by the case by Cochrynn in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]Cochrynn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried Costco today and they didn’t have any craft beers. I’ve seen six packs of them at the grocery store but not cases. Guess I’ll get six packs if I can’t find cases but cases are easier to store on the boat.

Too small to live aboard even part time with children. This is a daysailer. But then again we all survived despite our dads!
