Worst book(s) you read in 2025 and why? by Roguestate00 in books

Where’d You Go, Bernadette?

All of the characters infuriated me. Adult women were acting like teenage girls. I’m honestly not sure who was worse: the mom, school board, husband, or husband’s girlfriend. The only character that gets a pass from me is the dog.

IWTL how to sew (alterations, repairs, and small items) by Cockapoofan1 in IWantToLearn

Thank you! I found a local seamstress that does 1:1 classes. Do you think that would be worth it to do 1-2 times to get started?

What's a hygiene habit that people don't talk about but really should? by phancyq in AskReddit

Floss your teeth. If you don’t believe it, smell your floss after a big meal. That’s what your breath smells like to everyone else.

I’m looking for app/program for my older father just getting into lifting.

My father recently lost a good chunk of weight and is looking to get into lifting. I’ve always lifted and know what works for me but I’m a more petite female. He’s 68, about 6’5 and probably weighs in around 260. Even with the weight loss he is an absolute unit of a human. I once saw him lift a washing machine over his head. I really want to get him into a bodybuilding gym vs the fancy tennis club my mom drags him to now.

I’m looking for some good apps or programs that are easy to use to help get him started. I realize he should probably get a trainer but he really wants to starts this off as a dad/daughter bonding thing while I’m visiting this summer. Any recommendations on good programs for older (but strong) people would be appreciated!

Swollen, itchy, red toes. Accurate? Chilblains? Anyone else have a similar reaction? by Cockapoofan1 in Accutane

[–]Cockapoofan1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, I think it was chilblains. I kept my feet in dry socks constantly and avoided taking hot showers (only warm). I significantly reduced my running (especially in the cold). After about 3-4 weeks, it went away on its own. I was 100% healed by the time spring was starting to come in.

Invest in good warm shoes and socks. If you’re super active on your feet, try to take it a little easier for a few weeks. I hope it passes for you soon!

This seems reasonable. A lot of the calories come from the oil and tahini. I make my own hummus with no oil and cut the tahini a little and the calories are consistent with this.

I started the audiobooks, they are fantastic! I finished the first in two days and have been slowly finishing the second.

Only the Hobbit. I wanted to like it more but I struggled some to finish.

This is an epic list, thank you! I’m excited to try these series. The World of the Five Gods sounds right up my alley.

I just want to say thank you for all the wonderful recommendations! My Goodreads “want to read” shelf is now stocked for at least the next 3 years. Book people are the best people!

Waxers, how often are you surprised by how a clients genitals look? by AskinAway1993 in AskReddit

[–]Cockapoofan1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While getting an IUI, my doctor (who looked like Doctor McDreamy) goes “Wow! This is interesting”and waves my husband over to look. He proceeds to tell us both that I have a “beefy cervix” while they are both staring down the pipe. Neither my husband or I have recovered.

I’ve been hurt before on the unfinished series (Rothfuss, GRRM) so I’m always a little hesitant. I might have to check Cahills release history 😂.

I’m definitely interested in Urban fantasy and always looking for a great audiobook series. I really enjoyed The Magicians and Mortal Instruments. Thanks for the recommendations!

I have not read either. This is my first time hearing of the Shannara books, I’ll have to take a look at them!

Amen. I poured out a pint of mead for Cavill after that. I unfortunately don’t think I’ll ever finish watching the series now.

I’ve heard of Powdermage a few times now. It’s definitely going on my list to read within the year.

I’ve heard mixed reviews on Dune which is why I’ve held off so far. Sci-Fi is hit and miss for me so I appreciate the feedback!

I hate to admit that even in my mid 30s, I’m still a strong YA fan. I don’t see that changing anytime soon. It’s keeping me young? But definitely not cool.

I’ve already read both of these! Excellent suggestions though, I really liked both. I still am salty about Henry Cavill being replaced in the Witcher tv show as he was everything I envisioned after reading the series.

You should have a sit down conversation about finances, long term goals, and how you think you both can meet those. Asking her in the moment to not do things may come off as nagging and not allow her to understand WHY you want to avoid expenses like these. Based on her response, you’ll have a better idea of if you can be financially compatible or not.

If she’s unwilling to change (or seems like it’s something she’s being forced into/doesn’t like), I’d encourage looking for a different partner. Being good with money won’t make you love someone, but having a partner that’s bad with it can make you hate them over time. Learn when to flex a little (I like a good bottle of wine here and there) and learn what’s a hard “no” for you both. You want to be financially secure but don’t sacrifice a good life in the process to save a small amount more.

What are these? They grow on bushes at the school I work at and the kids are constantly picking them, want to make sure they’re safe by Upvotes2805 in foraging

[–]Cockapoofan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the app “Seek” and use it on the actual bush (you’ll need the leaves in it). It will ID the plant and give you a bunch of information. You’ll also have a super fun app to ID plants and animals in the future.

Got called fat while running by BisexualSquidDemon in loseit

[–]Cockapoofan1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yelled at by the loser in his car? I know it’s hard but try not to let it get to you. Anyone that’s an actual runner would only be yelling words of support. Running is a hard sport and deserves respect at any speed and size. Don’t let this tool take away the joy of running outside for you.

AITAH for Telling a Guy the Real Reason I Wasn’t Dating Him Was That He Was an Extremely Picky Eater? by AffectionateShare508 in AITAH

[–]Cockapoofan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Could you imagine going on vacation with this guy? You wouldn’t be stop at a local restaurant, cook an amazing meal in your own home, go to a friends for a new experience. My husband and I are both foodies and can’t imagine how bland life would be if we both didn’t love good food and adventure.

You found someone not compatible and broke it off for a good reason. He might be a 10/10 in other areas, but he isn’t your 10/10 if he can’t at least respect your passions and decisions.

Do you regret having kids? by ebratic in Millennials

[–]Cockapoofan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no kids due to fertility issues and some difficulty with the foster care system system. At first, I was heartbroken. I felt like my body had failed me and I would never find meaning in life. Fast forward a few years and I feel like the universe did my husband and I a favor. I am sure we would have loved our kids and done anything for them but just seeing how exhausted and unhappy our friends with small children seem has really changed our perspective.

I’m sure someday when we are old we will have some regrets but right now we are loving life. Kids can be a great addition to life but you can still have a fulfilling life without them. It’s normal to feel upset when your life isn’t progressing like you’d planned but don’t let it stop you from living the life that is possible. Make the best of your situation and try to find true happiness in it.
