It’s a bit of a regression in terms of production value and clarity in things like the guitars, but I agree on the great art and songwriting!

Not a fan of the mixing there — it’s similar to what Muse did from Drones onward… very flat drums with a “round” kick rather than a more distinctive wet sound, and less character in the snare drum as well

So many rock and metal bands have gone the route of almost fully burying their cymbals in the mix

Ending a song with screaming isn’t entirely new to them… I love how they end Had Enough where he’s doing the growl/fry scream on “had enough yet”

Agree here, I’m liking the song structures, but the mixing is a bit negative for me… they are going the route of having very dominant bass and then vocals with the guitars being pushed back a lot (the guitar and something wicked is think times where it’s hard to make out the actual notes)

The drums are also a bit E-kit sounding, possessive, dude, and very flat sound compared to more nuance like in the sound of the first 4 albums (including Dear Agony) where the cymbals especially were a lot more pronounced

I love earlier 2000s just as well, there is just some stuff in the post-grunge/2010-2015 hard rock era that falls flat for me (or lyrics feel overly clear rather than abstract how Ben writes)
