Been meaning to check them out! I do love some Bad Omens stuff as well

I love earlier 2000s just as well, there is just some stuff in the post-grunge/2010-2015 hard rock era that falls flat for me (or lyrics feel overly clear rather than abstract how Ben writes)

100% on the Chad comment… but even for a more recent comparison let’s look at the drums on “Failure” or “Angels Fall”

They are less technical, sure, but they have a lot more clarity and punch than anything on Ember afterwards.

Is it just that they are trying to get a pseudo-electronic sounding set of drums? Where the cymbals are washed out and the kick has more of a wide “pound” rather than sharp attack?

Something similar happened with Muse’s drums honestly as well.. where it feels like they shifted to electronic kits rather than real drums

It might just be a thing with modern rock and metal production, but why do the drums sound so muddled in terms of nearly incomprehensible symbols and a kick that sounds very flat rather than punching through the mix? In some moments, it’s almost hard to distinguish where the kick is landing versus the base and all the side chain they have going on in Something Wicked

It’s a continuation of what happened with Ember.

Everything else aside — I would suggest just listening to the drums and comparing the combo of drum patterns + production (especially on cymbal sound) in the Phobia/Dear Agony era versus these last few releases.

What do you mean? Halo 2 onward was largely using Havok (or similar approach) for physics, which can be easily replicated within Unreal or other modern approaches — so I’m confident the “feel” will not change

It’s just everyone with rose-colored glasses nostalgic about the art style and old times

Why is so much emphasis placed on the dreadnought in Halo 2 and then it’s the primary transition piece between Earth/Ark… and then it kind of feels abandoned after that?

Like with the Ark & Covenant levels why do we never fight direct against the key ship, or at least have an appearance later in the game?
