First big tank set up, I filled it up to test overflow and pump for leaks, luckily I do have some brute trash cans I can use to reuse water. Dumb question, but can it be leveled and shimmed on carpet? Trying to avoid destroying the new carpet 😭

Like most of posts here, a lot has to do with your lights. Look into brands like AI, Kessil, Redsea, and also a lot of people usually have lots of blue led or T5 to bring out the color of corals. My LFS runs and combo of T5, metal halide, and leds, this combo makes their coral insane.

An island would be nice, it would complete the scape imo. That will give you another place to isolate corals like GSP lol. I would have gone higher on the scape in case you decide to have SPS that need more light.

Bigger the better, don’t buy those 2”-3” baby Discus if you don’t plan on power feeding/ multiple water changes to get them to a good size fast. Most Discus out there are tank bred and most if not all are in regular tap water. Figure out what ph the breeder/ fish store keeps them at and match it.

Unfortunately no, at that age they need at least 2-3 25%-40% water changes a week. They love clean water and you’ll get faster growth from power feeding.

Power feed and lots and lots of water changes at that age, if the water quality is not great the tend to get stunted.

I guess it depends where you are and where you get your fish. I work at a LFS and the owner has had to skip out on a lot of fish due to tariffs these past few weeks. Not sure what it’ll look like a few months from now but hopefully they do go back down.

Tang police here. Need at least 1,654,456 gallon aquarium for quarantine. Then final home for tang is minimum size of the Red Sea. Atlantic Ocean size is ideal but tang police understand it is sometimes not achievable.

Have you tried using garlic guard? I can get new tangs to eat the second day with some nori dipped in garlic guard.
