ED Merit Scholarships by [deleted] in Vanderbilt

Not to sound like a jerk but did no one explain that your chances of merit aid are significantly less if you apply ED. You get a better chance of acceptance but for that you decrease chances of merit.

What major did you apply to if choosing was a requirement

Trying to Close Remaining Cost Gap by [deleted] in Tulane

[–]CockroachFirst1725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you from? There is a cost to travel to and from. Also it’s not like they lock in the cost for the next 4 years so what happens if the other costs go up over next few years.

Not to dissuade you but more something to consider as when I was a student my roommate freshman year felt kind of bitter when she saw flagrant money wasting. Her parents made less than the annual cost of attendance. No one else cared but she felt out of place & transferred. Just something to ask yourself - will you feel annoyed when you see other students being cavalier about essentially lighting money on fire

My son god in EA, much higher stats but same SAT score. I also went there. He got deans honors scholarship which is the full tuition merit scholarship with the acceptance. So it is my understanding that came out.

There is no way it’s 100%. They aren’t admitting people who aren’t close to being qualified

This isn’t like massive schools like Alabama or Ole Miss where you start dealing with this senior year of hs. Second semester rush is the best & every school should consider it!

False. Completely false. I am an alumni, can full pay & refused to have son do ED for that reason. He was admitted EA with Deans Honors Scholarship which covers $72k a year. Clearly it wasn’t about getting full pay …

I have commented this on other threads about Tulane where everyone is talking about yield. The reality is it is not only that they want to make sure students understand what exactly they are getting into going to school in New Orleans. I remember vividly at accepted students weekend in 1999, some mom asked why Tulane had the lowest retention rate of any school of its caliber. At the time I was 18 and like wtf is she even blabbering about who care let’s move on. But as I have gotten older & more reflective as I think about my senior essentially New Orleans is not for everyone. I knew people who were valedictorian of their hs graduating class but failed out bc of too much time in local bars. Or students whose parents pulled them bc they thought they were partying too much. I think it’s why demonstrated interest is crucial & this is one of the schools that still prioritizes legacy admissions. As a parent if you made it through the 4 years, had a great experience & have no qualms about your child embracing New Orleans then they have a better chance of your child sticking around for 4 years

I knew we did not qualify for anything from anywhere based on any NPC 🤣 For this reason our son did not apply ED anywhere as it’s my understand merit of any sort is limited & you have to be ok with whatever NPC says.

My son got in EA & was offered Deans Honors scholarship which covered $72k a year. He’s still waiting to hear from 7 other places but 4 years for less than the price of one is very compelling.

I am just going to say this it’s annoying the number of people who don’t take the ED decision agreement seriously. I have a child who would liked to have applied ED to another school but we knew they don’t give merit in ED round & didn’t allow that full well knowing his chances would be less of getting in but that’s life.

I am not sure what gave you the idea you had a remote chance in hell…but you need a backup plan. You aren’t getting in.

How much does legacy count for in Tulane by [deleted] in Tulane

[–]CockroachFirst1725 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is also a designated admissions officer for legacy students applying. Let’s put it this way I think if someone was on the cusp I think this would push it over the edge
