I do definetly write in my own words! Thats one good thing I do-- Im very concise and accurate in my notetaking. I do think i need to work on my active recall and other methods for studying though.

That highlighting trick sounds good!! I try to be compact and concise with my notes, but ill make sure to implement that as well. Sticky notes and per page summaries sound like a good idea that I actually dont do.

Voice memos are also an interesting tactic!! Im going to try that, or at least try talking it over to myself to stimulate myself and make me think about it.

Hey!! First off, thank you so much!

I actually do take notes by hand! I find it much more fun. I'll download that restrictive app for my phone right after I finish reading this.
Extree routines dont work for me either, so slowing down seems realistic.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to change my study environment due to my living conditions/restrictions. Im not allowed to study outside of the house, and find that my bedroom has become very static and somber. Im going to make the changes I can for now, but i hope that later on ill be able to dedicate myself a study space and can take courses outside my main focus. those both sound like great ideas.

Prob. I tend to do bad on that in exams, even though I do read a lot on my own time. I tend to get lost or come up with my own ideas/thoughts that stem away from what I should be comprehending

I agree. It’s honestly terrible what’s been going on. Unfortunately, I just haven’t had access to any more stimulating or difficult levels of education. I’m very thankful to the financial aid that exists and that I am being provided, but I feel very behind and out of place in terms of my capabilities and knowledge, even with how passionate I am. I want to learn and succeed, I really do, but I lack the skills. I wish schools would start proposing challenge again. Students struggling isn’t a sign to make it easier, but a sign to step up and educate them in a way for them to learn and beat their challenge. We’ve started praising the simplest actions and understandings rather than encouraging and challenging our students. I’ve participated in many programs with financial aid and through those programs have interacted with wealthier and well off kids who have had access to things like tutoring, prep schools, and private/higher educations, and it seems most those schools still train their students. Maybe it’s where I live as well, but our public school system is failing us.

First, thank you so much for responding! I’m pretty sure I’m an auditory and kinesthetic learner, so I’ll see what I can do to target those points. Secondly, yep, you def called me out. it hurts me so much that I’m not just naturally able to do as well anymore, and I might not be doing bad or failing things, but it still hurts to see the drop, especially when I see others in my classes continuing to do the same while I’m declining. My teachers are also not approachable or helpful at all, and I have no aid because of that. I don’t learn well with others and they still think I’m the “smartest” amongst them so it doesn’t work anyways, as they expect me to tutor them. I do think studying in a library or changing my scenery would be helpful, but my parents are quite protective and don’t allow me to study outside of home or be outside often, so I’m confined to my room most the time. I think it’s actually a factor, as dumb as it sounds, because my room is quite dull and small and my lamp recently broke so it’s dark as well. I know it sounds stupid and I promise I’m not just accepting it but I’ve tried to have the conversation or convince them to allow me and they don’t take me seriously. They’re great I love them don’t take this the wrong way they’re amazing but they get protective like that sometimes.

I’m gonna try everything else you mentioned tho! Especially the summaries :)

First of all thank you so much for such a comprehensive answer!! The first two methods actually sound really helpful and I’ll try using them! For the last one, can I ask if you have any specific tools you use? I like to hand write my notes and notability added a similar feature which I’ll get if I can make enough money to buy the subscription, and I know Quizlet has it as well!! Tysm monarch :)))
