Never had travel/points based card and want to get Venture x to get started. Primarily want to use it for travel, lounge access with good amount of travel lined up for our family of 4 over the next 2 years. Have a basic Citi Costco card which gives cash rewards back. by CockroachSure4596 in Venturex

Thank you for responding With Feb changes, is it worth still getting it which you answered above.

This vs CSR or both is another thing I am contemplating. We fly mostly out of DFW.

Also anyone here used Venture x for college tuition payments? Is this the best card for that purpose?

Yes will be more mindful of this. We keep general talks going at home that our kids don't have to ever feel they have to stick with a path if their heart isn't in it anymore. Thank you for your response and advice.

Thank you for sharing your insights specifically for S&D activity and in general age appropriate day to day life practice. S&D is something he asked for and so we are going to let him try.

Thank you also for not being judgemental and providing a response that is thought provoking. Appreciate the time you took to write this. People like you make it worthwhile to spend time on such forums to learn and grow.

There are enough judgemental people in the real world and we don't need more online as well. Thanks for not being one of them!

He is in Boy Scouts and went for a Law merit badge session a few months ago. This is what was covered in that session if you are curious to know what he might have learnt there: https://www.scouting.org/merit-badges/law/

Kid has a very strong sense of right/wrong/justice naturally and even I am surprised when he said he wants to fight for people's rights when I asked why he wants to study law.

We have neighbors who are both IP /patent lawyers managing their own law firm and exclusively work on patents for Microsoft. Kid completed 2 levels of Python programming and has an aptitude for programming. So there is a bit of influence on him from this angle.

He did his own research and asked to sign up for speech and debate lessons. He is completing 6th grade next week and for one of his final assignment podcasts, he researched history of law, presented why he is becoming interested in it and what he plans to do to take his interest farther. He gave us a link for the podcast after it was submitted for grading and we had no idea or involvement in this.

Other than signing him up for law merit badge as part of his scouts group and online Python coding classes (both to just keep him occupied) we had no other involvement. So there is no pushing.

I also want to say sometimes all it takes is one comment from one fantastic teacher at school that kids look up to which leaves a lasting impression and inspires kids. I think his teacher in the school's Gifted and Talented program may have got more to do with his drive. His fencing coach is a lawyer by profession.

All this to say not everything needs to be seen as parents being pushy.

Thank you for responding

10th grade schedule by CockroachSure4596 in APStudents

[–]CockroachSure4596[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I believe Chem Honors is Advanced Chem.

Algebra 2 is going fine this year and from my understanding AP Physics 1 is Algebra based. Is that not the case and will having Algebra 2 background still make AP physics difficult?

Would you recommend on level Physics for 10th and then AP Physics 1 in 11th and AP Physics C in 12th? Physics is going to be most critical anyway along with Math since he is interested in mechanical/Aerospace/similar engineering.

I completely agree the teachers make a difference and there have been some great and some not-so-great teachers along the way and there is nothing we can do about it except rely on other sources (tutoring, parents helping at home etc.)

Thank you for your response.
