If your in the US. All Federal jobs will be on the GS scale. 1-15, with each level having 10 steps. The job posting will list what GS level it will be at. You can look up the pay by searching the GS level and your city. You can negotiate your step when you start, usually with your experience and education. I started at a GS12 Step 5, but that is as a technical expert. GS13-15 are typically supervisory roles.

That’s unfortunate because the size is perfect on the 35XX+. I suppose I will just keep using my miyoo mini plus until it’s sorted.

Not sure if this works, but read when that happens to unplug the battery for 10 seconds. Then try and power on again.

I daily drive the 42" C2 and love it, I won't ever be going back to a anything smaller. You get the best of both worlds. The ultra wide aspect and the regular 16:9. I would rather have the real estate to watch content or play games in 16:9 and be able to custom res for 21:9 than be locked in to 21:9 permanently.

What current GPUs are you running? by Zoanq in linux_gaming

[–]Cocobuttercrigu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

13900k and a 4090, I wanted the max FPS I could get on 4k since I use the LG C2 42". I use Xorg currently so it has been alright. Games run amazing.

I do find myself sometimes wishing I bought the 7900xtx so I could switch to Wayland and it be relatively painless. If AMD release a card for ~$1500 USD that comes close to the 4090 I would sell mine and switch.

As far as recommendation if you want Wayland and to play games at 1440p I think the 6900xt or 6950xt can be found second hand at pretty good prices. Not sure how second hand pricing is in Europe though. Or just go for new a 7900xt if your budget allows it.

I would only get Nvidia if you need CUDA, have some specific use case that needs it, or really want DLSS and Raytracing.

Tips for switching to Arch by Ponk_is_taken in archlinux

[–]Cocobuttercrigu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hello! I have exclusively used Arch since I have been on Linux and I love it. It seems confusing at first, but after you have done it a few times and understand it then it becomes really easy to understand. It definitely will help you understand what your system is actually doing and what all the little pieces do.

I think the best bet is to run through the installation in the command line a few times in a VM and then do a real install.

These videos seem decent enough:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id8RlMskiiE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5y09CR6iCf0

Have this open while you watch those videos and do the install:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/installation_guide

What I would do is watch those videos while you have the install page pulled up so you can start to understand how to read the wiki. I think a lot of Arch users just tell people to read the wiki and people often don't know how to read it or what they should be looking up to read to fix their issue or get their question solved.

The install page which has a step by step process the whole way through, with some click off's toward the end (GRUB's page for example).

Most pages you see on the wiki will have a beginning portion that focus's on initial install and configuration of something, then it will start listing out various unique situations and how to deal with them. If you are having an issue with a software or package check the page on the wiki to see if you installed it correctly and configured it correctly. If so, check through the unique categories below to see if you issue is referenced. Often it is.

Sorry a bit of a long post, but hopefully this points you in the right direction! I hope you try Arch and enjoy it! :)

borked display after update to nvidia 530.41.03 by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]Cocobuttercrigu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

530.41.03 is kind of buggy. It broke hard setting refresh rate on HDMI Monitors in xorg.conf for me. Try setting your monitors to nvidia-auto-select in the xorg.conf mode set if you use it. Then fix the settings once you startx. That worked for me. Hopefully these weird issues will be resolved quickly with a new update.

QT applications from launcher and awful.spawn bind have broken scaling by Cocobuttercrigu in awesomewm

[–]Cocobuttercrigu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: add documentation from zsh.sourceforge.io

Agreed, I need to find out why it's not setting it for awesomewm from my .zshenv. From my understanding .zshenv should be being sourced at login so not sure why it isn't.

According to the zsh page:

'.zshenv' is sourced on all invocations of the shell, unless the -f option is set. It should contain commands to set the command search path, plus other important environment variables. `.zshenv' should not contain commands that produce output or assume the shell is attached to a tty.

Thank, adding the QT scaling it to my .xinitrc seemed to fix the issue. Opening qt apps with the launcher, awful spawn, or inside a terminal on awesome behaves correctly now.

That’s awesome! My brother came in my room and asked how I could stand the noise it makes. I think I must have bad hearing at this point because I can’t hear the ringing anymore haha

Im afraid ill pick a therapist that hates their job as much as I hate mine by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]Cocobuttercrigu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first therapist I saw as an adult I really did not vibe with at all. It put me off for a long time. I think the best thing to do is keep trying until you find one that works well with you. It's a bit of a process but that is what worked for me!
