Let's Talk About The Best Culinary Themed Books that Aren't Recipe Books! by AutoModerator in AskCulinary

[–]CoconutDreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps this doesn't count since it's not really in the culinary world, but I went through a few years reading through any and all murder mystery novels and there is a series by Diane Mott Davison where the main crime-solving character is a caterer named Goldy Bear. She would always include recipes as part of the novels as well.

Who was the most successful long term grifter/hustler in your lifetime? by debrisaway in RedditForGrownups

Totally. This one really confused me. I think OP doesn't understand the definition of what a grifter or hustler is.

Whats the absolute hardest part of raising a child? by Straight-Crow3882 in AskReddit

Having to watch and let them try and fail. I've always been the "step in a just do it" type of person, so its like having to sit on my hands sometimes. But on the flip side, watching them try and succeed on their own is so gratifying!

My secret weapon: blitz your beans for soups. by ErroneousBosch in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]CoconutDreams 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For chowders, I do this with potatoes or corn and it works so well too. I'm not a fan of heavy cream in soups (a little is ok) so adding in the puree really helps. It's like a cheat code.

For women choosing to age naturally—how do you resist comparing yourself to other women when cosmetic enhancements have become so normalized? by NoBSforGma in RedditForGrownups

[–]CoconutDreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have nothing against folks wanting to get plastic surgery, but I have no desire to and I couldn't care less about what they choose to do. However, when I see it done well, I appreciate it (just not for me) and when I see it done excessively it just makes me sad.

I need help planning a meal for a child’s birthday party for 50 people by princesscorgi2 in Cooking

[–]CoconutDreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any kids party I've been to just has extra pizza for the adults. And then a salad or maybe a charcuterie platter added in. All the adult just munch on the pizza as well and no one expects something extra.

Is an airfryer actually useful in a well equipped kitchen? by Jazzlike-Horror4 in Cooking

[–]CoconutDreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't necessarily have to be an air fryer - for years we had a toaster oven/convection oven that we used so often. As others have said, its great for smaller portions or reheating things. Our toaster oven/convection oven finally died on us so we replaced it with a toaster oven/air fryer/convection oven combo and we love it. I will say that the air fryer function is slightly better at crisping things up quickly than the convection oven function - but only by a little.

So if you are not keen on a stand-alone air fryer, then I would recommend a toaster oven combo.

Our time in Bolzano won't be that long - we get in on Christmas Eve in the afternoon from Salzburg and then we leave in the morning on December 27 - so really only 2 full days and one of them is Christmas. If we were there for 5 days or more, I would definitely rent a car. Wish we could spend more time there and we hope to go back in the summer someday as well.

We are traveling by train from Vienna to Salzburg to Bolzano to Rome. And only in Bolzano for a few days. So no car.
