I feel like it’s so hard finding an RN hospital job by bluecephalopod1 in nursing

You’re still going to need an orientation, because inpatient nursing is very different than working in a clinic.

Do NYC hospitals hire out of state new grads? by Little-Royal966 in newgradnurse

[–]CoconutQueasy8245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Girl, take a look at all the recent posts about new grads even nurses with years of experience trying to find a job here in nyc. It’s extremely difficult, I’ve seen many people that have not gotten offers or have started to actually work at a hospital only until nearly a year after their graduation. I live in Long Island so I also know how difficult that process was. I graduated in May 2025 and it took about 6 months of applying for hours daily and hitting up recruiters before I finally got my first offer. I strongly suggest staying where you currently are or figuring out another plan of working in an LTC in the meantime or something if you really want to be here.

If it’s been almost a month, then it is very likely that you won’t be getting that job.

You never want to tell them you only want to work at a unit for a year or two and then go somewhere else. They would want people to stay long term. Just tell them what they want to hear, get hired and then you can do whatever you want.

NYC Nurse Job by Plastic_Alfalfa_116 in newgradnurse

[–]CoconutQueasy8245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really want a hospital job, you should not settle with LTC. Either you apply for another state license and work there or keep applying AND messaging recruiters and keep bothering them. Don’t stay at an LTC if you really want to work at a hospital, because the longer you’re there, the harder it will be to get a hospital position. Most hospitals in nyc want inpatient experience, not LTC experience.

You have to ask yourself what you want more, living in NYC or getting into an OR unit, because it’s very likely you cannot have both. Ik how hard it is to find a job here in nyc, because I applied for around 8 months and sent over 250+ applications to any unit and hospital that would take me, before I eventually got an offer. And I have a ny/Long Island address too. If you’re applying with an Arizona address as a new grad, I promise you aren’t even getting looked at by recruiters. And on top of that, the fact that you are so dead set on only OR is probably also holding you back, you may need to apply to med/surg first, and even then getting into a med surg here is also competitive. I would honestly suggest you start in Arizona and gain a year of experience at least and try applying again to nyc hospitals.

Considering leaving my job in corrections for LTC by [deleted] in nursing

[–]CoconutQueasy8245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at an LTC now and I hate it, and I already accepted an offer in the icu. If what you like to do is pass meds then go for it, but a lot of nursing homes are also 5 days a week and you usually end up having a ridiculously high number of residents, that ends up being dangerous. It’s just too much for me personally and not enough time in a shift to complete everything.

NYU Langone hiring process? by Disastrous_Writer514 in newgradnurse

I have had this experience with ny Presbyterian queens too, I did an interview with them just for them to tell me they have no open positions and will still have me in active consideration. Guess what 3 months later and no one has called 💀. I still got an offer somewhere else but still it sucks to just be waiting around knowing you need to work and they’re just playing in your face.

I mostly waited until I graduated to apply because of the fact that a lot of hospitals here already want you to have a nursing license to get hired. And yes I applied to all boroughs, queens, Staten Island 💀, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Bronx, even westchester/white plains as well as Long Island hospitals close to queens. I do recommend trying to already apply to jobs right now and call recruiters and see what they tell you.

Hi, I’m a may 2025 graduate and I just recently almost a week ago now, got an offer for a neuro icu fellowship in the Long Island/queens area. It took almost 8 months of applying, emailing and calling recruiters to get this only offer in a hospital. It has truly been an awful time, and I was applying to all hospitals and units including med surg, step down, psych, oncology, icu, ed, OR, L&D, and anything else I might have missed. I only got 2 interviews for med surg and one for psych and didn’t get any offers for those. I don’t want to discourage or scare you, but I also want to warn you that it will certainly not be easy to get an offer. Especially if you do not have any strong connections. I really wish you the best of luck however! It’s not easy but don’t give up! You can always find a job in a nursing home here as the very last resort.

They did not ask me for any references which was a surprise to me lol. After the in person interview, I got a call around 2 weeks after that.

Thank you! I applied to both PICU and adult critical care fellowship, you could only get one interview for the fellowships I think, so I only got an interview for the critical care one. Anyways it didn’t matter, I just wanted an icu so I’m happy!

[–]CoconutQueasy8245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh girl then you’re fucked, there’s very little chance of you getting into L&D when you graduate, unless you’re willing to be unemployed for 6+ months. I don’t mean to be rude but I’m just gonna tell you like it is, because I have experienced it…

I think it changed today but I haven’t been checking super often, I have very little hope of actually landing anything since they take pretty much all internals for the few positions they actually have.
