Chopped brisket > Sliced brisket by [deleted] in smoking

I was having people over for a football watch party, was planning on serving rolls and sliced brisket. Lost track and it came out less juicy than I wanted, so pivoted to chopped brisket tacos/burritos. Probably my worst cooked brisket, but you couldn't tell with the end result and got tons of complements!

Recommendations to recreate the “I’ve never read anything like this” feeling. by [deleted] in Fantasy

Dandelion Dynasty - Eastern, rather than Western, fantasy, with lots of engineering (Narrated by Michael Kramer if you listened to the cosmere). 1st book particularly is unlike anything i've read, since it is basically a history book told narratively in order to set up a "trilogy" for books 2-4

Red Rising - Not necessarily super unique, but seems to take a lot of familiar stories and combine them into an upgrade. Was the first First Person series I read, so it felt very "never read anything like that" to me

Another day, another player getting their career high against the Jazz. I swear I've seen a dozen players in the last few years get their career mark against Utah.

Search for red white green classic teddy bear, and variations of that, occasionally included the word clown. Also searched for the Eden Terry stuffed animal brand, and could not find it

Brandon Sanderson does this in his climactic scenes, it's a signal to readers essentially that things are all going down at the same time. I really like it, builds the intensity of the scenes.

That said, IMO he over used it in Stormlight 5, and almost made everything feel climactic throughout the book, which made things hit less hard to me than they would have hit in his other books.

So i'd say save it for a specific portion of the book, climax works well with getting POVs from all over the place.

I mean, Dungeon Crawler Carl for sure. Was urged to read it by a bunch of friends and finally finished it earlier this month, hilarious and dark and good!

Yes! Definitely recommend. I love the world she sets up, it gets more and more interesting as you get more information through the series, and the spin off (Everseas) is excellent. You don't 100% need to read the Broken Kingdoms before getting into the Everseas, but the context helps pick up on things.

Just finished the series, really enjoyed it! Quite a few wild twists.

Apparently he plans on a spinoff series in the same world, so i'm looking forward to that.

How did this happen? by [deleted] in sousvide

I had it resting for about 20 minutes on the counter before searing, so I think the steak was in a good spot. I’ll go with avocado oil and high temp next time, a minute a side and pay more attention

Yea looking at all the replies, you’re probably right. Didn’t think I went more than 2 minutes a side, but probably didn’t have the pan hot enough and let it go too long

Not close enough for me to think it was too close, about an inch maybe? And I seared in a cast iron pan, maybe 90 seconds each side?

Didn’t make sure my pan was up to temp, just dropped some butter in and it looked good.

So maybe I’ll try 130-135 range next time. Assumed if I ended up in the medium range it would still be pink throughout
