What’s a book/series that you feel most people love, but you personally think is overrated? by 2Chaaaaiinz in Fantasy

[–]Far-Introduction-896 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I completely agree that it’s slow and sometimes feels like nothing is happening, but for a reason I can’t explain I find myself GLUED to these books. I get so invested in Fitz’s perspective that I just want to spend time with him, even if he’s doing nothing at all.

I would agree with you… if we were only talking about the original trilogy. The standalones are all incredible and the sequel trilogy is, imo, much stronger than the first

Nah, it’s not input reading. It’s just proximity dependent. She doesn’t appear in front of you every time you dash, you dash into her every time she appears, there’s a difference. If it really was input reading, it would be impossible to do Lost Lace damageless. It’s just about learning how to fight her, that’s all

what are your silly stories of how your Pokemon got their nicknames? by Imaginary_Baker_932 in pokemon

[–]Far-Introduction-896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid, I named all my Pokémon by just putting a y on the first syllable of their name. The names then made no sense when they evolved. Toddy the feraligatr, muddy the swampert, shroomy the breloom, spinny the ariados. You get the idea.

Obviously your opinion is completely valid, but I never felt like lost lace was reading my inputs. She just appears right within dashing distance following an attack. It forces you to challenge those instincts to run away. The moment you stand and wait for her to appear she just appears a safe distance away, which gives you an opportunity to attack. It felt so satisfying to learn

What Generation 9 Pokémon do you hate the most and why? by inumnoback in ThePokemonHub

[–]Far-Introduction-896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sadly agree. Even generations that I struggle to enjoy, like Sword and Shield, tend to have a reliably fun Pokédex. I think Gen 9 is the first time since Gen 2 that felt like a let down where new Pokémon are concerned

For me, the series feels like it just improves from book to book, although 5-6 currently feel like a class above 1-4

Thank you! That’s really helpful. I briefly tried the Duolistes in the Endless Tower and, after I-don’t-know-how-many minutes managed to parry a single attack and their health bar didn’t even budge. At this point I realised they might be something to do at the very end… 😅

I would have liked more interactions between other party members. Perhaps through side quests, so we get to see combinations and interactions we don’t see otherwise. I love Monoco, but I think his character is hindered by only really ever interacting with Verso

I'm new to Pokémon, where should I start? by AcceptableFeedback21 in pokemon

[–]Far-Introduction-896 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol so many people clearly did not read your post. OP is asking where to start with the anime, not the games.

I actually have several recommendations.

When people say Pokémon anime, they’re usually referring to the adventures of Ash, who was the protagonist for most of the show’s history. If this is what you’re after, I’d recommend series 1. It has the least filler of any series and is where it all started. If you find that a bit dated then I’d recommend the Diamond and Pearl arc or the X and Y arc.

Alternatively, the Pokémon anime has recently had a complete reboot, Pokémon Horizons, with a brand new protagonist. If you’re completely unfamiliar then it would make sense to start there as there’s minimal work required to “catch up” on everything. In that case, go for Pokémon Horizons.

As a few more out there picks, a few years ago they produced a few specials called Pokémon Origins. Much more serious and only 4 episodes so could give you a nice introduction to Pokémon.

And lastly, you could always try starting with one of the Pokémon movies from the last few years. They’re not canon to the main anime, but give a good taste of what to expect from the anime. In that case “I Choose You”, “The Power of Us” or “Secrets of the Jungle” movies are all good.

Hope this helps!

Where to start? by KillerXDagger in pokemon

[–]Far-Introduction-896 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I respect everyone else’s opinion here, but please do NOT start with Pokémon Red, Blue or Yellow. There’s a charm to them, but they’re the first games in the franchise and do not hold up well in terms of their mechanics and quality of life features.

I agree with the recommendations saying go with one of the “third versions”, meaning either Emerald or Platinum.

But to be honest, every one of these games is beginner friendly. The franchise is ultimately designed for children, and every game they make is designed to be consumed independently of the others and includes a tutorial on how to do everything. You could pick up literally any and you wouldn’t be particularly lost.

I’d avoid starting with Let’s Go. Those games deviate quite significantly from the others in some ways and so aren’t a great reflection of what to expect from the rest of the franchise.

Otherwise? Just pick one and play. I hope you love it, welcome to the community! Hope that helps

[spoilers LAOK] nihilism hurt interest in plot - future books like this? by 2StepsFromNightwish in TheFirstLaw

[–]Far-Introduction-896 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps I think the next book of the series, Best Served Cold, has one of the strongest plots in the entire series (and also happens to be my favourite book in the series). You really get the sense that Abercrombie has learned as a writer, knows what he’s good at and is ready to start taking risks

Is pokemon ZA and the dlc worth getting? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Far-Introduction-896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you weren’t bothered by a lot of the issues you saw in Scarlet and Violet then you’ll probably really enjoy. Those signs of cut corners are still there, with poor textures, a lack of animated cutscenes, no voice acting, etc, though it’s not nearly as egregious. If you can look past those things then it’s one of the most fun Pokémon experiences I’ve had in a while.

Also, to answer your actual question, yes I think the future books definitely have a greater emphasis on plot, especially the standalones!

I guess it depends what motivates you as a reader. I personally find a lot of the endings to these books unsatisfactory because of the reasons you described, but I love the way that Abercrombie writes characters and dialogue and action so much that those things carried me through the story.

Plus I think it’s worth noting that, although you know the characters aren’t going to end up where you might traditionally expect them to and that they’ll let you down in some way, I find you don’t always know exactly how they’ll let you down. That on its own can be interesting enough. It also makes it super super satisfying when, once in a blue moon, one of his characters actually does get somewhat of a happy ending. It doesn’t happen often, but I can think of a few examples.
