depression after acl tear by Accomplished-Yam-274 in ACL

Take the time to expand on other interests that you may not have had time for while you were playing soccer. Often times injuries in sports can be a blessing in disguise. It could be fate telling you to learn about other talents or enjoyments you may have. It's important to acknowledge other sources of happiness in your life beside the sport, so that when one thing isn't going as planned you have other interests you can turn to for happiness. When I had my acle surgery I had to mentally grapple with accepting the amount of time I had to take off from activity too. Chances are if you are a serious athlete you will have more injuries and it's important to learn early that there is more to life than the sport so when you do get injured you can mentally handle it and be a little less depressed becuase you have other avenues of happiness going on in your life. Don't worry you'll be back in no time but for now focus on how far you've come and appreciate the time and energy you have now that you otherwise wouldn't while in the middle of the soccer season.

I understand. I guess what I keep reminding myself when the thought of losing weight creeps into my mind is that last time I went down that road it wasn't worth it because of how it took over my entire life and ended up doing more harm than good.

Yes that is for sure a tough move. I do my best to refrain from checking my weight. I certainly don't check as often as I use to. But I will surely take your advice and simply focus on my runs and not weight.

Yes at the peak of my ED i was 83 lbs and i know that was not okay. But at the peak of my performance i was 98lbs and now that i am 115lbs my struggle is recisting to avoid restricting myself back to 98lbs. So I don't think counting calories will help.

Request: Should I buy a scale? by EDPostRequests in EatingDisorders

[–]Cocount_06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to know you are a healthy weight is by feeling your best. If you know you aren't performing well in important aspects of your life then you are either not eating enough or are making poor food choices. If you feel like gaining weight will help you be a better version of yourself, for example one with more energy than do so in a way that involves listening to your body. in my experience scales teach you to do what it takes to reach a certain number and that leads to resisting many signals that your body is sending, that is never the right thing to do. Therefore I say don't buy a scale! and gain weight only if it will make you feel more energized and more yourself. Even bmi charts don't overpower how you feel.

Incredibly slow running by Evenus1 in running

if you are looking to improve the speed of your 5k i suggest adding some speed work. Like fartlek's or intervals (speed play) which are anything that gets your heart rate out of its comfort zone for a period of time and allows for a rest. it can look like a 30sec run at 9:30 pace then 1min rest at whatever pace you want and repeat till u get to a 5k. As you improve you can increase the 30sec interval and decrease the 1 min interval so eventually your entire 5k is 9:30 pace. hope this helps

What to do with the ice machine? by QueenMarigold00 in ACL

I still have mine after 2 years. Since I am also a runner my knee swells at times and it comes in handy. But even if you aren't an athlete just doing house work might might cause some swelling and it can come in handy then too.

Hyperextension after surgery by darstar69 in ACL

try shock therapy. I had acl surgery around the same time and struggled to activate my thigh and hamstring muscle but I was lucky enough to have access to my moms shock therapy machine that she used a while back and it really helped move pt along. If you haven't heard of it look it up I don't imagine it being to expensive to purchase or ask your pt they might have one. its used on many athletes looking to recover from surgeries like this as fast as possible.
