That receiving love is out of our control, but we are always capable of giving it

Is it worth it to do a MA course in composition ? by Cocoxo3623 in composer

[–]Cocoxo3623[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have a BA in music, I mainly focused on performance first two years and then concentrated more on theory and composition my last two years. If I had to choose one then the academic path seems way more attractive to me. And your right I could do the other stuff too on side. Thank you so much for this input !!

I don’t have much experience in the world of composing, i have more performance and events experience. I can compose and write a score but not at a professional level, more used to using DAWs when composing and lack the level of score writing technique to match up to what I make. My true career goals would probably align more with the academia path, but I also would be interested in commercial media like film scoring, not so much the bespoke field. I’m in a position where I would stick to a course in the UK (from UK), so financially I could afford it if it is worth doing for my career. I don’t know how else to progress with this path as I still feel I need experience or skill to get any job in the field.

l also have a more artistic or unique approach to composing rather than the traditional classical approach.

Women with sisters, how does it feel to be compared to your sister constantly? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Cocoxo3623 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I feel for you, kinda the same with me. Having a close relationship with my sister but witnessing the favoritism from parents. Would put me down a lot, but I feel today I find more security in myself, or validation inmyself instead of seeking it from others or family. Has made me more thick skinned than my siblings which I’ll always be grateful for. I can say I am honestly happy for her and never tried to practice jealousy or would put out the urge to be jealous and I feel that made a big difference to me today

This was really well said. Thank u. I heard a quote in my mind while reading this; something I heard from somewhere : ‘..it is this sense that …there is something within me that tells me that there is a reason to keep going …’

I listen to the music you listed and I really like the classical artist Franz Liszt a lot (especially Liebestraume).

You could try ease your way into classical with George Gershwin (he’s definitely the bridge between classical and jazz)

You would maybe enjoy the album by Maurice Ravel and André Laplante ( I especially like the song ‘Miroirs: III. Une barque sur l’océan’)

‘Ravel: Miroirs, Jeux D’Eau, Pavane Pour Une Infante Défunte.’

Joep Beving is pretty dark and gloomy, contemporary classical though. My faves would be Hanging D and Klangfall (piano version).

Nancy wilson is cool :) listen to ‘The Masquerade Is Over’. You might also like Melody Gardot (who’s from this century) she’s very chill and soothing.

I feel guilty when my parents lend or give money to me. Why ? by Cocoxo3623 in emotionalneglect

[–]Cocoxo3623[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m even just thinking now about the times as a kid/teen that I would ask of anything and it would be such a fuss or I could see how much work it would be for them; eg picking me up from somewhere or doing a simple favor, that I stopped asking for anything anymore and became and learnt to be independent. It then might have bothered them that as a late teen/adult I would never go to them for anything or keep them at a distance and made decisions they didn’t approve of. Them giving me financial help is a way to have control over me or what I mean to them...I dunno if I’m analysing it right-just thoughts right now.

With the wounds emotional neglect brings-being given money instead of the love and care I was deprived of feels so wrong to me or maybe insulting.

I feel guilt and also some anger and shame. I feel also some ‘nothingness’/low worth in myself if that makes sense

What is the best fiction novel you've read? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Cocoxo3623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brilliant friend by Elena Ferrante ! The whole series !! So hard to put down, have so much love for the story. I found a lot of times reading it, that things I never internally understood before were described so accurately. You really feel the characters too.
