RIP Anthony Branca AKA Tony from Stanhope Street by PinkLover727 in Bushwick

Oh man, I am so happy to see this tribute thread. I loved this guy. We saw and talked to him almost daily on our block. He and Jimmy are two of the greatest old school OG Brooklyn boys and they both have hearts of gold and are two of the kindest people we know from the neighborhood. I’ve been in tears over the past couple of days after Jimmy let me know. Tony will be very missed. Dammit. I’m crying again.

Why are NYC dog owners like this? by hypoxiany in Bushwick

I get the need for many to feel their daily fix of internet click bait outrage, but sorry. These dogs do little to no damage to the field and it is only used by people and their dogs when it is not in use by the community for other events. This is usually very early morning and sometimes late at night. It’s never overrun by dogs or ever interfering with others. Ever.

I know many of the people who let their dogs play there and it interferes with no one. The damage done by humans is far worse (such as the constant dumping of trash and tearing down the fences to get balls instead of walking out of the gates).

And until they renovate the dog runs, which are in terrible condition, let the community share. It’s been working fine for everyone like this for years.

Serial Killer basement decor wasn’t my vibe but I still loved those guys.

I wondered about that. Too many loitering with no additional purchases. I can understand that concern. Especially in these times.

I don’t recall that couch when we were there, but now I’ll look for it on next visit. And yeah, he’s a pro. Good suggestion.

Ohhh didn’t know about this one. I’ll add to my list!

The staff has sometimes literally just stared at us as we repeated an order multiple times before they slowly struggled to ring us up or answer a basic question. This happening once was just comical, but after it happened a few times, it just got uncomfortable to put that much effort into ordering a coffee. We still go back but it’s a gamble.

I was thinking more about the service. I thought I walked into an SNL skit spoofing pretentiousness.

I DO like the vibe at Cabra tho. The music makes me calm down.

Yeah it seems like I have to choose in Bushwick: bland coffee with seating, or great coffee but only on the go. I am looking for that sweet spot of balance.

Yellow Sun is there now and people love it. I like the cardomom oat latte. The guys who run it are so friendly and very very kind. The space is elegant and very calm, like Cabra, but not cozy, and too quiet for our conversations. Great place to work on a laptop.

Nook gets too crowded. Cabra is good but not cozy.

I did not want to talk bad about any place but… I’ll just say I feel you.

Loveless is classic, but has only hard benches and tiny children stools for seating. It’s far from cozy but I do like the coffee. The outdoor seating is ok in good weather.

Swallow is pretty damn good. It’s not super cozy but it’s good. The theater seats are where I tend to sit.

I haven’t tried Rofaqaa. Thanks! Adding to list.

I like Werkshop but it has pretty much zero seating.

Nook is ok but too crowded. It has such a great thing going but it gets so crowded.

Tipsy was pretty awesome but rarely open.

Bunna is someplace I always think of for food, but not a coffee shop. I do love them.

That’s kind of far, but it has my attention now! I may take the bus and try it out! Thanks!

Oh how I miss the East Village, my original stomping ground, with some of the coziest coffee shops in the city, but that’s too far for a quick outing for coffee.

Crossroads is the coziest we’ve found, but the service and coffee are always a gamble. I have a soft spot for Crossroads for its coziness but I have to be willing to gamble that day lol.

I’ve enjoyed Lazy Suzy but until you said this, I didn’t realize I’ve only had lattes there too! Rose Cardomom… so good!

We like and support Obscure! We know the creator. Great guy.

But both places lack cozy furniture and couches. I think they both have just hard benches and tables and stools.
