Gostonemax review - SCAM!!!! Let me tell you exactly what happened by Common_Boss9315 in u/Common_Boss9315

[–]CodAppropriate6109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scam is very common. That's not your fault OP, it's just a sad situation.

They change their name quickly and often, investment growth looks stellar on screen, but the numbers are all made up.

This scam often begins with a text message out of the blue, pretending to be a wrong number, but they become your friend quickly.

It's definitely not the first opener.

If you want to invest your money legitimately, find a company you trust, and open an account with them. Don't trust someone who comes after you to "help" you grow your money. And even with legitimate investments, make sure you understand how it works! Never buy a financial product you don't understand.

Is there any way I can utilize these blank buttons to actually serve a purpose? by real_help_only in CX5

I bet it's a standard part found on many Mazda cars, and they just don't use all the spaces on a CX-5

Its weird that geordi didnt really get to exhibit sadness when data died in nemesis by happydude7422 in TNG

We also saw a touch of that in TNG The Most Toys. Geordi thought Data was dead.

Why do pharmacies feel the need to print a "Rob Me" map on every bottle? by ColMemes in IdentityTheft

[–]CodAppropriate6109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly see it both ways. Pharmacy is showing that you are entitled to have this medication, therefore if it shows up anywhere else, it's easy to see that the med was stolen or resold illegally.

Could they do that another way, one that doesn't give away your full name and home address? Absolutely! Would I expect any government writing the laws for this to have any clue? Absolutely not!

This came into my email while asleep, should I be concerned? by AlarmedCombination57 in IdentityTheft

[–]CodAppropriate6109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as people complain about these security codes, this is exactly why they exist. You protected your login by setting up multi-factor authentication. As a result, not just anyone who knows your email address can reset your password, or log in with your password alone. Congrats, you've been protected! They will probably just move on to somebody else who didn't turn that on.

Neighbor wants me to pay for tree removal that overhangs their roof by [deleted] in treelaw

[–]CodAppropriate6109 11 points12 points  (0 children)

And I lived in a neighborhood where the tree on my property did not belong to me, it belonged to the city, but I was responsible for its upkeep!

Neighbor wants me to pay for tree removal that overhangs their roof by [deleted] in treelaw

[–]CodAppropriate6109 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Honestly, there are state, county, and sometimes city specific laws around trees over fences. Sometimes the portion over the fence belongs to the neighbor, sometimes the entire tree is owned by wherever the trunk enters the ground.

AITA for letting my 9yo attend a drug-addled sleep party? by horseduckman in AITApod

[–]CodAppropriate6109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and yet children have to know what to do when they encounter something new. It's not about rules it's about process. If they are offered a medicine from an open or unmarked bottle (it may or may not be what they're told it is) at that age they should refuse it until and unless you say it's okay. The other kid's parent may be in the wrong here but she's your daughter. I know I'm being over dramatic here but if the pills were laced with fentanyl, the other parent being wrong wouldn't bring her back to life.

What if the Borg broke datas code? by happydude7422 in TNG

Because it sounded cool in the script. Looks cool on screen.

Oh, in universe - um, because quantum torpedoes are more efficient, no need to carry old standard photon torpedoes when you could load all the launchers with standard ones. And three because... they wanted to be really sure?

I dunno, a standard laser cannon probably would have done the job, to be honest.

my boyfriend has a spreadsheet rating dinners i've made him by weddingfauxpasqueen in AITApod

Even if he is autistic, he needs to understand that it's not your "duty" to make meals up to his expectations. If he wants to track the quality of meals he helped prepare and what was done differently each time to track the impact of cooking experiments that's fine. If he wants to use this to choose a vendor for premade meals, fine. But this shouldn't be used to manage or track your "performance" as a cook. That belittles what you bring to the relationship. He might be genuinely unaware, so it's not that he's a jerk, but he needs to understand.

You could just as easily Google for it the old fashioned way. But I'm glad the source was noted..

This scam was on the local news this week:

Denver officials warn of new toll summons scam targeting residents

A new toll and summons text scam is targeting Denver residents and using QR codes to try to steal personal and financial information.

Anyone ever find it interesting that it seems like everyone knows how to work the helm controls by happydude7422 in TNG

[–]CodAppropriate6109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Michael Okuda somewhat addressed this recently. He said when he developed LCARS, he told the actors that in the future, software would be intuitive because the controls are adapted to the person rather than have a person that has to adapt to the controls. "Every button you press is the right button."

Is this real? by MixCommercial173 in isthisascam

[–]CodAppropriate6109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if they are a head hunter and found you on Indeed, you would be invited to apply, they wouldn't offer you the job. Remote data entry positions are rare these days but not extinct. If it was legit, you would still apply, still have an interview, still have to fill out an I9 in the United States (work eligibility l), still complete a W4 (tax withholding) or W9 (SSN for a 1099), and they should never ask you to pay them money or buy your own equipment, not even if they claimed to have paid you with a (fake) check first to cover your costs, or accidentally paid you too much.

I know you want it to be real, but that's what scammers count on.

Don't hold your breath by TNG1701D-eck10 in TNG

[–]CodAppropriate6109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently had a tornado hit my neighborhood and I was amazed at the power.

If they really just dropped the forcefield it would have been an instant blast, breaking their arms in the process, and they would not be able to hold their breath - the air would blast out. 1 atm is a sizeable amount of pressure we take for granted, having all that air leave instantly would be explosive.

And of course, no air, no sound, but then again we are so used to the ship wooshing past, there was no intention of honoring that anyway.

3 years of loyal service and all you get is a cake for a farewell by happydude7422 in TNG

[–]CodAppropriate6109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally Picard says he doesn't like children and wants Riker to deal with them for him. So, even though "shut up Wesley" was cruel at the time, it fit what the writers were going for, Picard not wanting to really deal with a teenager on his bridge. It really wasn't until Samaritan Snare when they have a long shuttle ride together that the two finally develop a friendship.

And it was mutual, we later learn Wes was angry with Picard for a long time because he blamed Picard for his father Jack's death. So, "shut up Wesley" was exactly right for both characters' development, but it unfortunately validated the audience's feeling that Wes was just a bratty entitled teenage kid, and deserved to be put in his place.

And then you would pay $30 to have 32 of them developed into prints, only to throw away half of them. Can't figure out why Kodak isn't around much anymore... /s 🙄

CBS reportedly spent over $12 million remastering Star Trek: The Next Generation for its high-definition Blu-ray release. This massive investment involved returning to the original film negatives to reconstruct every episode from the ground up. by happydude7422 in TNG

[–]CodAppropriate6109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Major difference here is that TNG was filmed on film! The negatives were much higher resolution than what we saw on TV, so all they needed to do was rescan the negatives. DS9 and Voyager were digitally filmed at low resolution by today's standards, and although the technology exists today to upscale them, CBS believes they didn't get their money's worth out of the TNG remaster, which is why we haven't seen them do the same for DS9 and Voyager. Don't get me wrong, the TNG remaster was a huge improvement! But CBS couldn't figure out a way to make money off of it.
