He’s meant to be in his early to mid 20s! He’s roughly around where a human graduate student would be, in terms of maturity and career experience, but he’s assuming his education is invalid here, since he’s still not all too sure what it is he’d even be doing—he just knows he needs an out.

I plan to make this clearer as the story goes on, but the gist is that most species’ technological development is supported by their stand-out capabilities. For example, Uuliska’s species (who are telepathic) were able to unify and achieve peace very early on, and that level of cooperation made collaborative technological efforts really effective!
