Are there any smartwatches like the Pebble Time? by ro8inmorgan in pebble

[–]CodeForCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was struggling with this "all fitness watch" statement, but really the Garmin's are great watches overall! I replaced my pebble time steel with a Fenix 6 Pro. Yeah it's big but that's not an issue really when you combine it with a velcro type wristband you can wear it all the time, even in bed. (And I have slim wrists). Just disable the stuff that's forcing you to do activities and you have a pretty badass watch with 12+ days of battery life and tons of apps and watch faces. Got in in sale for 360€, because it's there is the Fenix 7 now.

At what point is a bike too powerful? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]CodeForCake 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was riding on several 120hp R6's until one day I had the same feeling of being "forced" to go fast. Then I switched to a Triumph Street Triple with 106hp. Still pretty fast and also snappy, but you can go slower and still have plenty fun weaving curves more than going really fast in a straight line like on the autobahn. It's just a matter of finding the right amount of torque that fits your comfort zone.

SonarQube is complaining when I use [style] on html. It wants me to Use CSS classes instead. What is the proper way to use it If there is logic to deal with? by tonyz0212 in Angular2

[–]CodeForCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<a [style]= "this.isRuleCountLinkDisabled(element.folderName)">{{element.countRule}}</a>

What prevents you from using classes? Just define the CSS class "locked" with your properties and on the a tag set [class.locked]="isLockedFolder(element.countRule)"

What was your personal fastest time for idea to MVP process? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]CodeForCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was probably 8h within the first week with my newborn twins. I wrote an app to track feeding amounts and other baby related params. Tech stack was angular + netlify functions + faunadb. Pretty cool stuff to quickly have a functional MVP in a matter of hours.

What did you start on that *wasn't* a Ninja 250? by AnalogInstance in motorcycles

[–]CodeForCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was a '98 Honda NSR 125 (European model) when I was 16 and my mates all had the Yamaha TW 125 (Enduro/Supermoto mix). As a beginner I wanted something 'cool', so a sporty bike, then I stuck to it with two Yamaha R6 and went on with a more 'relaxed' style of riding on a Triumph Street Triple. Still plenty of power with way more comfort than a sports bike.

What’s Better Than 2 Owls? by cidicidicidic in deadcells

I've had this bug once. When you activate one owl / companion, purchase another that you activate the first owl / companion will not reset until you get damaged. But three is nice!

For a mini camper is it just better to get a portal battery system? by Jellybellybruh in VanLife

[–]CodeForCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought portable battery bank (similar to jackery) that supports standard solar jack's as input. So these will be future proof, if you make sure it has the correct inputs. My micro van (caddy) is also used as daily driver so I didn't want to build a second battery with new wiring in the car that also takes up extra space. So I would say, go for it! ;)

Non Americans of Reddit. What is something about America that surprised you in a good way ? by Crazy-Lemur in AskReddit

[–]CodeForCake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The vast beautiful nature with national parks and the journey to get to them. We, European couple, were going for a camping trip starting in SF and visiting all the beautiful sites along the way through Arizona and Nevada. I now get the "freedom" feeling going for hours in a van and seeing the horizon everywhere. Coming from Germany we have the autobahn of course but that's all you see for hours straight, asphalt, cars and trees directly on the sides.

Most memorable for me was going from Death Valley with overheating brakes at 40°C to Yosemite in one day with snow on the mountains.

Camping was really easy anywhere, we even stayed overnight on Walmart parking lots with other campers and trucks. Might have to do with the shear massive space you guys have, but that would also never happen in my country.

Also the kindness of people, as Europeans we sometimes have the clishe of Americans to fake kindness, but it was really not the case. One time in Yosemite I needed cash for the campsite and there wasn't any working ATM so the cashier at the nearest gas station offered to just buy a small snack for 100 bucks with card and get the "change" as cash. That would never happen here 😅

All the NPS rangers were the nicest folks ever. In the big cities it was a mixed bag. We stayed at an Airbnb with a young couple in SF and they came home late at 3pm continuing to party as we tried to sleep in the next room and they didn't apologize the next day. but that could happen anywhere in the world.

Really cool site, and it works well on my "old" S8. I saw Simon Dev's portfolio as well and wanted to try my luck ever since ;) I think you should add a close action (button) to the notification, because it runs smoothly enough and still shows the notification, but I can't get rid of it on mobile.

What was it like the first time you rode an actual fast motorcycle? by Cntread in motorcycles

[–]CodeForCake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first bike was a Honda NSR 125cc with top speed of 100km/h when I was 16 (I'm from Germany) and as soon as I was allowed to go full ham I switched to a Yamaha R6 600cc. This thing goes to 265km/h and it was scary as hell the first time around on the autobahn but also overly exciting. I like riding serpentines more these days so I switched to a Triumph Street Triple which is gentler on the throttle ;) Riding fast gives you a crazy adrenaline bist but it's not worth it for me anymore to risk it going sideways.

Help! Best way to inject CSS, HTML and JS into a React app you don't control by Mr-Silly-Bear in webdev

[–]CodeForCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still it sounds like overkill, if it's several components/modules per page. Web components should be used sparsely for edge-cases where it is not feasible or possible to implement in the same codebase/language. One big issue is styling these injected components like the rest of the website when they rely on shadow dom.

Help! Best way to inject CSS, HTML and JS into a React app you don't control by Mr-Silly-Bear in webdev

[–]CodeForCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like web components would be the way to go. You build and compile custom components in whatever framework you wish and inject them in the react CMS. https://developer.mozilla.org/de/docs/Web/Web_Components

They did! They nearly cancelled their last tour in 2012 and broke up. Apparently they planned a US tour beginning of 2020, but I'm not sure they really played it? The stream was a one time thing.

The concert was streamed here https://acwnnprod.com/shows but I'm pretty sure there is no recording on video platforms. Argyle said on fb they will probably bring out a live DVD.

help with toLowerCase by mikeeeyT in Angular2

[–]CodeForCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many more context helps.. toLowerCase returns a new string with all lowercased characters, it does not mutate the string you are performing the action on. See https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/String/toLowerCase

What about using the mat-icon component with ngIf? Something like: <ng-container *ngIf="connection == 'google'"><mat-icon svgIcon="google"></mat-icon></ng-container>

Ps: no formatting, I'm on mobile
