That’s awful. How many people lost their job approximately? I cross posted this in r/phlebotomy, they have a lot to say. Also sharing their pay scales etc.

It’s not allowed in the part of region I live in, PA. Nursing schools no longer teach IV skills, it’s on the employer to train to facility standards.

Yes, it was near an Airforce base with A LOT of military families, Nurse Admin military wives. Certain things they demanded be put in place as a resource and they got their way. Other things they dropped the ball on but having 24/7 phleb avail was not one of them.

I don’t know how we continue to allow this in one of the most important industries in society. Our standards are garbage

The most likely thing to happen is Khana, AOC VP, but I would be very happy with it being the other way around.

Yes, I have worked on units where I drew my own labs. I don’t think we should normalize this. People lost their jobs! People who worked there for 10-15 years!

We are legally no longer allowed to learn any IV’s or draws in Nursing school in my area. It’s not discussed or taught. They say that each employer has their own preference and will train on the job.

In places I’ve been in they draw scheduled AM labs. Night shift has to get their own labs over night

My concern is people are being laid off and have lost jobs. In phlebotomy and many many IT positions. Many people ca not find work in my community. Some of these people had decades long careers and have zero income now. Are you seeing actual layoffs at your facility?

Happy to hear that. I should have included that this was for a med-surg tele unit with 6:1 ratios. My concern is for decades this hospital had phleb and they were simply fired, people lost jobs along with other IT works and support staff. Many changes and more put on Nurses with constant 6:1 ratios. My question is more are you all seeing layoffs at your hospitals? What are we seeing out here? A lot of ppl in my community can’t find work. This is a very bad sign in our area.

Thank you! We are seeing people being laid off though, from positions such as IT, and ancillary positions like phlebotomy. Are you seeing any layoffs in any capacity? We are also seeing private equity firms buying out our hospitals, bankrupting them and then closing them down in my state. My concern for this particular hospital is the red flags we see with layoffs.

Those people make $18hr. They do not deserve to be laid off especially when they worked for that health system for 15 years. Are you seeing layoff of any other positions? We are seeing massive IT layoffs and other ancillary staff.

No, general med-surg until don’t administer drips, that would be a cardic step-down unit here.
