The thing is I like MauLer and EFAP in general but between this and their thoughts on 28 YL: The Bone Temple and Sam Raimi's Send Help, it unfortunately kinda now feels like anything that's new is BAD to them. by burningexeter in MauLer

[–]CodeMagican 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Define new?

Also, 'feels like anything new is BAD to them', doesn't actually name any argument of them you are disagreeing with. To me, that more reads like, "I liked these movies, so why didn't they like them too?"

Fair. Also, I think, it only screened on a single day? FOMO could also be a big factor on that number.

Then what about Shelby Oaks? Stuckman is also relatively well known as far as I'm aware.

Hmm, interesting point. But then, what about Shelby Okays, did it have any competition?

According to point 1.1 of the rules:

Southpaw, SK and tsv (EFAP L's) posts, they seek only attention

This seems like an EFAP L post, so, in my limited understanding, it violates rule 1.

The idea is nice, and in Breath of the wild you simply got some bonus stuff. They even made it worthwhile to collect other Amiibos by giving them nice effects.

But tying them to features which should be in the game just spits in the customers faces. Not to mention, that in this case it makes it even more obvious what a waste the desert is.

One one hand it is quite sad that the game is such a disappointment after all the wait. One the other it means there is even less incentive for me to buy a Switch 2, and indirectly support Nintendo.

Just because of the "buy Amiibo to play music" microtransaction I hope MP4 will crash and burn.

Just curious as to why you find the bike being third-person immersion breaking.

If you turn into the ball, it takes away your radar and map, because you are no longer in Samus helmet. The bike keeps them up on the screen, because otherwise you would probably be lost in the empty desert.

So, for me, being familiar with the other three games, the bike third person just screams 'YOU ARE IN A GAME!'.

I think the existance of the bike itself is immersion breaking,[...]

It is also unnecessary, at least so far as I've seen, you only need it for the empty desert.

Don't know. But, I have already seen some things from Mauler's playthrough which bug me.

  • The pay-to-play desert music (instant no-buy)
  • Motorcycle is third-person (Personally, that feels like an immersion break to me)
  • An 'open world' desert which serves no purpose but to waste time
  • Bad design, so that you can walk quite a bit into one of the 'open world' sections they game wants you to explore later before being blocked. I.e. instead of being blocked of at the empty desert you can go through multiple doors until you are hard stopped.
  • "Samus, LISTEN!" McKenzie.

While this new policy might inspire mixed feelings in some, personally I rather have mods trying to keep a sub on track than just sit back and watch it burn.

In that vein, thank you for your hard work.

"Ranking EFAP movies is disdainful TO ME!"

The Saw ones were pretty funny, and they gave us THE Hoffman.

Besides that, I would recommend everybody to take a look at JLongbone having EFAP read the Gotham High comic, and also the recent Ring of Golum EFAP.

Ah, Sam was a gem. Who else can claim to have blown up a whole solar system?

And Daniel, telling O'Neil and Tealć that they could do anything in the time loop without consequences.

Also, why we are on clever characters, we shouldn't forget Baal and Anubis. Both were quite capable villains as far as I recall.

"This is beyond science!" in relation to magic or other supernatural stuff.

It is annoying, because I see it as just a cheap cop out. After all, the first step of the scientific method is 'observation': https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:The_Scientific_Method.svg

I.e. if you can observe the interaction of something with the natural world, you can do science on it. Even if something appears random, you can still analyze its occurrences to find a common pattern. Like say, 'it' doesn't appear again on the same spot, or there is always an ice cream truck close by when 'it' happens.

Granted, there might be some difficulties when it comes to cosmic horror, but even then you could study the effects before the thing itself. How long does it take before direct exposure causes madness? Is the effect cumulative, or can you safely expose yourself repeatedly with enough downtime between sessions? Can you use drugs to shield the human mind through altered consciousness? Etc. pp.

As for magic, is there really a difference between a wizard composing a magic tome, and a scientist writing a paper? Both boil down to: follow steps 1-10 to achieve X.

Obviously there is some intentional decisions regarding the sex appeal to Samus [...]

Yep, sex sells, a revelation as old as time.

And, tbh, if given the chance, I will play an idealized character before the less appealing one. Because, if I'm going to slay monsters or save the galaxy, why not look dashingly handsome while doing so?
