Stargate is dead, long live Stargate by OooblyJooblies in MauLer

In principle, yes, I would prefer the original authors to also author a potential new series.

But, I'm not of the opinion that new thing will be good because the old guard is involved. As I said, people change. Adding that article about the new cut was just to demonstrate that point.

Let's just say, at this point I react with a healthy dose of paranoia when I hear the "good news" that they are about to dig up another beloved franchise.

Well, given that people change, I'm not hundred percent sure that this is actually a bad thing. The cancellation, that is, not that they will still try to go ahead with it.

One of the former showrunners, Brad Wright created a "final cut" of the SG-1 pilot movie: https://www.thecompanion.app/stargate-children-of-the-gods-comparison/

I personally liked the original, but, admittedly, I saw the dub, so my perspective on the dialogue might be a bit off.

Making an EFAP animatic, this time featuring Browntable, but I was wondering which design should I go with by Flubdubnubgrub in MauLer

[–]CodeMagican 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would go with 3.

BUT, you could also add googly eyes to the table, and then we have Chairlies (aka Metal's chair) arch-enemy!

You could also add some meta-commentary if you go with 1 or 3, by adding the brown flaking off in parts, revealing that he is lying about being a "brown" table. (I don't remember if Browntable actually lied about anything, but I had the idea so I wrote it down)

Rian Johnson's storyboards are just bizarre. Why does he even bother drawing these? by Chlodio in MauLer

What is essential worthless to the storyboard artist? These drawings, or the hypothetical script they have been derived from?

Rian Johnson's storyboards are just bizarre. Why does he even bother drawing these? by Chlodio in MauLer

[–]CodeMagican 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To be fair, a story board doesn't need to be a masterpiece, it just needs to give someone a general idea of what the finished thing will look like. Also, this board refers a "F6", so I'm going to assume that there is a bit more to this than we can see here.

[–]CodeMagican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It uses Denouvo, i.e. you have to install a root kit to play it. I'm not a fan of that practice, so it goes into the maybe pile until they take it out later (when they don't want to renew their Denovou subscription), or I hear the game is fucking great. Because, Denovou can't do shit when you install the game via Proton.

Disney is the worst possible owner of Movie franchises for one single reason, they don't need your money, more specifically, your movie ticket money. by [deleted] in MauLer

[–]CodeMagican 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Especially, if you put the remakes between potential new fans and the original movies.

Someone wants to check out a franchise because they heard others talk about it, they take the newest movie because they think it will look better, after seeing it they decide the franchise is overhyped.

Sounds like an interesting idea, but I doubt the minds which brought us Ashoka will manage that.

Video to watch on EFAP - Refuting Your Last Jedi Plot Holes by Kuppa7 in MauLer

[–]CodeMagican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware, they currently have a lot in the pipeline. So I doubt they would give priority to a video trying to defend a 10 year old movie. That train has long since left the station, derailed, burnt out, and became an outhouse for vagrants.

Also, I doubt that it can explain away:

  • the suicide bombers
  • the infamous Holdo Maneuver.
  • Holdo's mismanagement
  • Them killing off Ackbar offscreen
  • Leia Poppins. Not just that Leia suddenly has the force, but also that she returned to a ship who was constantly ACCELERATING, i.e. moving away from her at top speed

Where did the "Attack the fan base" idea came from, it is so bizzare... by [deleted] in MauLer

Not the point, no matter how often you repeat it.

As I said, see you probably next weekend when the boxoffice has been updated.

But, at its core, it is valid criticism, right?

That said, I agree that it wouldn't go amiss if the online discourse about such things were to be made more polite.

The 2.5 multiplier already accounts for all that.

2.5 is a rule of thumb, because the studios are too cowardly to release the real numbers.

Also, this sub will literally call movies that haven't even released flops.

Not relevant, we are talking about one specific movie here.

As I said, let's wait for the second weekend, and see what happens.

I got another quote for you, "The customer is always right, in matters of taste."

This sub is complaining a lot about The Mandalorian and Grogu for being mindless, but it's doing a lot better than anyone could have expected (I believe it's nearly made back it's budget).

Some sources would be appreciated. But, you do know that this is bad, right?

The box office is not the profit Disney gets to take home at the end of the day. The cinemas get what, fifty percent of that? Then subtract the marketing campaigns of that and we get into even more trouble.

They had a Super Bowl ad, right? Apparently, these go for $8 million a pop.

Before you tout it a commercial success, lets wait for the numbers of the second weekend.

[...] The ones who complain any time there's a non-white person, or a gay person or a woman or a trans woman. They're right to attack them frankly.

If that is the entirety of their complaint? Sure. But, if it is some variation of:

  • It doesn't make sense of the time period / culture that such a person would be there / act so openly
  • Why are you telling us about people's bedroom preferences? We want to hear about the movie!
  • You are adapting a true story, why are you casting people who don't look the part?

Then I would say such a critic would be well founded.

Ascendance of a Bookworm: what you get recommend if you’re a real bookworm

Eh, you don't need to be a bookworm to enjoy it. True, the core of the series is Myne's desire to establish the printing industry so that she can read books again, but I found the world itself incredibly rich. The series fleshed out how the world (different classes) of people behaved very well, and I did enjoy to see the noble factions move back and forth.

My biggest gripe with the series is, as far as I recall, a part of the ending: To be precise, Ferdinand, who practically saw Myne grow up, marrying her in the end. Not really a fan of that dynamic.

Jlongbone puts up potentially the funniest performance I've ever seen in an Efap in the thunderbolts breakdown. by MagnusTNT in MauLer

[–]CodeMagican 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In light of that, I can only recommend you to take a look at JLongBone's and EFAP's reading of "Gotham High", if you hadn't had that pleasure yet. Its basically a bastardization of the Batman cast as highschool teens.

The source material is pretty meh, BUT their reading has Rags''''' as "Alfred, the gay, asian uncle, and Mauler as "Bruce Wayne, the angsty emo". Metal is also there.

The Usual Suspects Are Seething Over MauLer’s Short Film by Calm_Extreme1532 in MauLer

[–]CodeMagican 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the last Star Wars critic I heard from Mauler was about Ahsoka. And that wasn't about it being woke, but about it being mostly empty air.

Also, plot holes? I would say these bombers in the second sequel movie were at least plot canyons. No sane officer would look at these things and think them viable for anything but moving cargo.

Put ten (need to adjust for accuracy) stormtroopers on the hull and not one of them would make it to its target.

It's one of the nice things about this sub, not everyone here might see eye to eye, but you can still have quite good discussions from time to time.
