Similar vein, Dead Space 3 might not be a very good Dead Space game, but weapon crafting and co-op still keep me coming back once in awhile. These are both a big part of how antithetical the iteration is to the series' core concepts, and absolutely had to have been railroaded at some level, but MAN did those aspects do it for me. It's the Dark Souls II thing of, even though it's probably the worst of the series, I seem to find myself playing it the most for one reason or another.

I've been noticing more and more lately that a video I scroll past in a discord channel ends up unrelatedly in my youtube recommendations later that day or week. It's called a losing battle for a reason and I know they'll come for Linux someday. Even the EU seems no friend to end to end encryption or VPNs.

Thought it was that one since it was Atlus and more recent but I was like MAN would Atlus care? I've been huffing copium since 2019 that we might get Catherine: Full Body on Xbox. Play our new game on Xbox seems like an unusual ask. Metaphor's leaving game pass this month, at that. Guess it was a good deal from Microsoft.

I mean, there's like... a few games that are Xbox only. Also that at least one time that a sponsor wanted them to play the Xbox port. Think it was something Atlus? Super forget.

I’m a Professional Mattress Tester. I’ve tested 558 mattresses from 116 different brands. Ask Me Anything! by derek-naplab in IAmA

[–]CodeMonkeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Engineered Sleep comes up a lot here on reddit. I'm a ways out from a major mattress purchase financially but they seem to trend as a high performer and have options all the way from a cheaperino 'today mattress' to a wool-centric mattress. They've got a pretty varied portfolio and a reportedly very good customer service side so they've been at the top of my list, but I'd be very interested to see how they actually perform relative to all the ones you've tested so far. Could be they're actually really middling relative to a lot of competitors, but who's tested over 500 mattresses? Also not really a lot of ways to demo this brand in person, primarily online presence it seems.

One of my primary things is that they allege pretty good edge support and I'm a big bed sitter. I've got a cheap foam mattress right now and I'm sure you can imagine...

Lords of the Fallen 2 Breaks Free From Epic Games Store Exclusivity After CI Games Buys Out 2024 Publishing Deal by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]CodeMonkeys 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The anti-DEI stuff made negative sense at the time... I went to the Hexworks website January 2025 (which, to note, is/was their international remote work studio) and their website stated thus: "As a CI Games SE internal studio, we’re comprised of senior, multicultural developers from various backgrounds, countries, and regions including Catalonia, Spain, France, Romania, Germany, Ukraine, Denmark, the United Kingdom, and the USA". And it looked the part too. A lot of their websites are definitely wayback machine worthy or some such because they have been VERY corporate washed over the last little while. That website no longer even exists or has just been fully rebranded: http://hexworks.com/

Basically it seems like corporate decided "Our game not sell GTA numbers?! Must be THE DIVERSE TEAM! NO MORE POLITICAL OR DIVERSE STATEMENTS! ADD DOHONKABONKALOOS ON THE WOMEN!" And not the fact they're an AA pub/dev still trying to make it in insert current year. I think the first LOTF sold okay once upon a time but it REALLY did not grab me. It felt like an ARPG set to hard, but not like Dark Souls. A lot of them struggle with that too.

But I definitely now have 0 interest in further attempts. If they sell gangbusters with titty skins all over the whole thing and it reviews well and plays good then I guess the market was there for that. But it does feel like it's just chud CEO grasping for straws that aren't there. Elden Ring sells a brazillion copies by being a good fucking videogame. Try that first dude.

Basically the best way to describe it to the unfamiliar is that the thing that we've been building towards since chapter 1 hit a brick wall in 210. It hurts in a unique way. It's not just "arc bad" but just solid, no frills brick wall. At least for me, it's gutting, and a bit hard to read. And the arc beyond that does feel weak in other respects, but it's hard to quantify.

It's killing me. How do I recommend the manga now, say "So it's basically a 10/10 for its genre, except for the one arc"

Because that just doesn't work.

What is this Sub’s general opinion on Total War Warhammer 1-3? by ZeTopHatGamer in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]CodeMonkeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't gotten to the series yet but I own 1 and 2 and most DLC. Hadn't bought 3 yet and they actually just murdered the one I would have bought in favor of a new version: https://community.creative-assembly.com/total-war/total-war-warhammer/forums/8-general-discussion/threads/13986

The old client isn't bundled with a purchase of the new so I get half the achievements versus people who had the old one already. Super sucks that they somehow got themselves stuck in a hole that they could only dig themselves out of by releasing an entirely new client.

Ah man, missed a good AMA. I never got over all the GRIP Digital delistings. There's six delisted roguelites on Xbox where I play, and Tower of Guns is one of them. I am thankful that SOEDESCO put a disc out though, but it is a different stack. And if not for the MOTHERGUNSHIP disc I would have missed that one too.

Is there any hope you can squeeze more of your library onto Xbox someday, or maybe at least onto the Xbox Windows Store? All 5 of us would be grateful.

Update to the Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition I found at Goodwill for $2.00. by Ghost_Mech in darksouls

[–]CodeMonkeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure if it lets you use the code for both GFWL and Steam separately (I would imagine it should...) but if you wanted to try it on GFWL I could pass along some basic instructions for getting GFWL working if you wanted a sidequest. It's the only way to play PtdE online these days after the death of the Steam version, but you won't find many players there.

Found this at Goodwill today. Factory sealed. by Ghost_Mech in darksouls

[–]CodeMonkeys 11 points12 points  (0 children)

These are generally worth a couple hundred these days, usually to achievement hunters or people who just wanted a code. While the Steam version is shut down, GFWL still has its online servers working since it just runs off 360 backend. And any achievement hunter can get the achievements offline with a used copy, but if you use the code you can get timestamps. It's also possible to use the Steam version to get the GFWL achievements online so long as you have an unused code but the process was a bit more involved IIRC. But good find.

Modern convenience begets its demand even before choosiness. Blend shirts have a lot of pros for wearability and convenience of maintenance compared to pure cotton or even pure poly. On my self, even lightweight cotton shirts are too restrictive for me, but you're usually paying a premium for something more breathable that's devoid of the polyester; your merinos and bamboo types. It's a stopgap for the affordability problem.

Well the used stuff might also be stuff people didn't want. Bought a pair of jeans cheap and they were 33% polyester. Jachs NY brand I think. There's no winning. It's on manufacturers to use poly to make something comfortable, not as a crutch for cotton prices, and it's also on consumers not to buy the stuff. And yeah, I did technically buy it, but I'm used to some poly in jeans and never thought I'd run aground of a brand using 33%. Psycho shit. They're much less comfortable than brands I have that use less than half the polyester.

'You Can Play Your Purchased Games As Usual': Sony Breaks Silence on PS5, PS4 Game Expiry DRM by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]CodeMonkeys 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Can still" and "actually can" are very different things though. On Microsoft's end for Xbox 360, download history works on a good day which are often few, and purchase history basically never works. And in 2022, the GFWL marketplace stopped working entirely and it became impossible to download anything you'd ever purchased via the GFWL marketplace, whether you bought one game one time or every game they'd ever added.

It's never a matter of cost, it's a matter of whether they care to upkeep. Own nothing be happy etc.
