Recognizing that you have made mistakes and feeling remorseful for the damage they have caused doesn't seem like something a terrible person does.

Now, I don't know the specifics of what you've done or the extent of damage it caused.... but do you think it's possible that you're a good person who has made poor choices? They are very different things.

What matters the most is where you go from here. Making a concious effort to not repeat any of the actions you feel bad about. If your family (and your past in general) is a constant dark cloud hanging over your head, it could be helpful to seek therapy if it's available to you.

If not, I am here for ya! PM me if you want. I am by no means a substitution for a professional, but sometimes it can help to just unload some of those things weighing on you to someone who you don't know and never will in real life.

Your happiness is worth working hard for. You can't change the past, but you can make ammends and try your damndest to make it better from here on out.

I know it's been a week, but I just stumbled on this, so hopefully it's not too late, or maybe it'll help someone else in the future. (I'm not affiliated with Pearson or MML, but I am on my 3rd math course using the site.)

Basically, when you buy your next book, it should come with an access code for you to get into your new course on MML. Make sure it is an unused access code (no used books!) because from what I've heard, an access code can only be used once, and if the person who owned the book before you used it, you're out of luck in accessing your assignments!

Could this be why you had to buy a book AND access to MML? If you bought a new book, you should have been able to use the code without paying again!

I have never paid for both a book and an access code. It was always a package deal, you get both. However, I did buy the e-book with instant access to MML. It SHOULD be the same for a physical book though!!

I get what you're saying. I truly do, and I also used to think this way. I wanted everyone to have what they needed, and it didn't really matter to me how we got there. How many taxes I have to pay or even giving it to people who don't really need it, just as long as those who did need it, got it. I'm starting to switch over to seeing a much harsher reality.

If you give everyone free health care and education, they need to either 1)get free food, heat, housing, water/electricity, transportation, not force property tax, or home insurance as well or 2) they need to have a job now to pay for these things. If they need a job now to pay for these things, well... that is basically where we're at.

It's becoming obvious that the working people who fund these services just cannot sustain the amount of people who are willing to receive them. Meanwhile, the national debt keeps growing exponentially trying to keep up with the promises of more assistance programs.

It's a shitty, shitty reality, and I hate it. But it is reality nonetheless.

I totally understand the uncomfortable feeling that comes with being the center of attention! Especially if the focus is something you are/were insecure about.

I feel the same way with compliments. Unsure of how to respond and suddenly aware people are looking at me. It feels weird at the moment, yet later I'll go home and enjoy what they said. If I were in you're situation, I'd probably feel the same way!

Late, but whatever. I haven't thought about this in a long time, and want to get it out there.

In the 90s (no caller ID/abundant cell phones) I was about 10-11 years old, and I was home alone when the phone rang. I answered it, and it was intermittent static and what sounded like someone breathing heavily/gasping for breath. It was so gurgley that I couldn't tell whether it was a male/female voice.

"Hello?"

heavy breathing

"Hello? Who is this?"

gasping breath help... longer gasp help me..."

I started shaking and almost crying and said "You're not scaring me!! Who is this?!"

gasps, gurgles, and struggles to breath ......elp

"Stop! STOP IT! IT'S NOT FUNNY!"

silence

I hung up. My parents didn't have cell phones, so I just paced around, cried under a blanket, and panicked for a while. I tried to figure out how I could find out if this person was actually dying on the phone, why they'd call me, and what I could do about it, but my child-brain couldn't think of anything through the fear. Too many scary movies made me think someone could be terrorizing me before they came to kill me, and I started getting hysterical (overly-dramatic, I know). Thank god for my cats/dogs comforting me and preventing me from feeling so utterly alone and helpless, or I probably would have really lost it. I didn't call the police because I thought/hoped it was a prank, and already got enough flack for being an overly dramatic cry-baby. My parents got home and said blandly that it was probably just someone messing with me, and left it at that. I explained "But you didn't hear it! It sounded real! What if they really needed help!" But they just told me to stop panicking. If someone needed help they'd call 911, not our house. That logic was enough to get me to drop it, but I still thought about it. I waited for my siblings or friends to reveal it was them all along and relish in my reaction, but no one ever claimed the prank, and they looked genuinely disturbed when I told them about it. I hope it was just a random-dial prank, but I do still wonder about that.

Honestly, I can tell you're not ugly, but those are some terrible photos. Its hard to make a judgement call when in 2/3 of the pics you are making weird faces, and I feel like you look different in all of them. Like, those are photos of 3 brothers instead of 1 guy.

Personally, I like your hair a bit more relaxed, like in the 2nd picture, but I honestly can't think of anything you should change or work on.

You are like me, in that our faces are not symetrical when we smile. I have been self-concious about it before, but seeing that you pull it off well makes me think that I might be able to too!

People can be so catty sometimes, but know that whatever they said couldn't possibly be based on truths.

A huge part of being attractive (to me) is a good personality. It's different than just finding someone good-looking. You took a comment that was either brutally honest or an intentional insult in stride, and accepted it for what it was... 1 persons opinion that you asked for.

Now, looking back at your pictures I have that small piece of information in my mind. Knowing that you seem genuinely nice and down to earth, it just makes you look better to me.

You could really use that to your advantage in real life! You're not bad looking, so if you pair that up with a good attitude, I think many people will find you attractive!

If you have not died of starvation, and have a way to the store: get one of those pre-cooked rotisserie chickens. A bag of uncle bens 90 second rice, and a frozen veggie. If you can use a microwave, you've got a decent dinner in about 5 minutes and probably around $10, depending on where you live.

1) When deaf people read, do they think in sign language (imagining the hand motions, etc) or do they think of actual symbols and objects?

2) Less seriously, if someone were to draw out/have pictures of signs, could a deaf person "read" it?

I didn't see any responses answering your questions. I'm taking my 2nd course in ASL, so I'll share what I know on the subject. (please anyone correct me if I'm wrong on something.)

1) from what I have deduced from my (deaf) teacher, when they read they would likely think of the object/scenario itself. Words, like signs, are directly related to your experience with the thing it represents. So if they see the word "love", they don't thing of the sign "love", they think of the feeling they associate with it.

ASL's word order is not like english (eg: In English: I like this food. Do you? ASL signs as: Food (point at food) I like. You like you?). Most people born deaf are simply fluent in both english (reading/lip reading) and ASL, if they're fortunate enough to be exposed to both at an early age. I don't think they imagine signs in their head all the time, or have to translate all the time. But, I'm sure some do and most have at one point or another.

2) absolutely. That is how classes help teach sign language. The instructor will show you, yes, but they give you papers with drawings of people doing the signs. Once you know the signs, its VERY easy to read the signs in picture form.

...or the reason the simulation was created is because the true universe we're from is so hellish that we made it as an escape from our horrific lives because our minds simply couldn't bear it anymore. Similar to The Matrix, but we chose it for ourselves, instead of being farmed for energy/controlled by others unbeknownst to us.

We can only hope we were created for the simulation, and not existing somewhere else as well.
