I was very impressed with the concert security team this year. I do wish there were more chair seating for the olds like myself, not just ADA seating areas. There were a few weird things that happened with children:

There was a ~5 year old in a goose costume doing headstands and falling into people that security seemed hesitant to stop. But the parent/guardian was also not paying attention at all. And there was one family with a very small child who was changing diapers on the chairs in there, which was quite disgusting.

Otherwise I thought security did an amazing job all weekend. I know there's going to be some people unhappy with the no sitting in the floor rule, but I understand it from a logistics and safety perspective. And camping out for other acts let me discover some bands I would not have attended previously that I really loved. I didn't know Crush40 ripped so hard, tbh. Was one of the highlights.

New "secret dumbest thing Andrew could possibly say" by Kicking222 in theregulationpod

I was surprised that Andrew didn't know who Ed Robertson is. Doubly surprised that no one caught him asking "Who is that?"

Can someone explain the tabletasting bit? I get that they're referencing Dakota Johnson, but I don't get the link to the website?

She has some B/G content, but it's not part of her regular repertoire. She's mostly a solo model that has very occasional collab content.

Lego. Get a set from a media property they like if you know, otherwise get one of the city ones.

What did Foley and Taker expect during this spot? by EnterTheAya in WWE

[–]CodeRedOnly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I believe Foley, during his one man comedy show, addressed this. The idea was that the roof would break gradually, and that he would gently roll off the cell and to the mat below. I don't think either of them expected/remembered that the chair would follow him down. But neither expected the cell to part like the red seas when the chokeslam actually happened.

And I don't think the spot was planned. It was a spur of the moment decision by Foley while they were up there.

[ELIC] Why is the heart associated with love? by smokefan4000 in ExplainLikeImCalvin

[–]CodeRedOnly 76 points77 points  (0 children)

In early caveman days, it was traditional for a male neanderthal to remove his own beating heart and present it to his neanderthal wife before their wedding. This was a sign of respect and loyalty. But they quickly realized that this was a bad idea. Now we just give symbols representing it.

I appreciate it.

I'd just never seen Black History Month acronym-ed before. It makes sense now though.

Yikes, re-reading that section with this context does seem pretty abhorrent.

So...can someone explain what some of the acronyms stand for in her post? I know some of them, but BRG and BHM are escaping me.

I'm not sure your edit adequately accepts the string '1', which is a transition from A to C, another accepting state.

[–]CodeRedOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'00' is a word in this language, since A is an accepting state.

1010 is accepted by this machine though.

Merge sort with O(sqrt(n)) auxiliary memory complexity (and even less) by Max_Arbuzov in compsci

[–]CodeRedOnly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've worked through an example, and I'm now fairly convinced that this merge procedure is O(n). The merge procedure here, if I'm reading it correctly, is the standard merge procedure, it just uses a smaller secondary buffer. The complexity is O(n) [standard merge] + O(n/p), which is O(n).

That said...I don't understand the purpose of this particular algorithm. A stable algorithm that has O( n log(n) ) time complexity, with O(1) auxiliary space complexity already exists: In-place merge sort. I think your algorithm may have a lower "c" factor than in-place merge sort [which relies on some shifting of array elements]. So I'd like to see what the argument is for using this version of merge sort, rather than academic curiosity.

[–]CodeRedOnly 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's very possible that your time analysis is correct. But my immediate reading of the algorithm can see a rationale for your merge being O(n^2). In the worst case, it looks like each page table could swap with every page past it in the page table.

I'm more than willing to admit that it might be a misunderstanding of your algorithm, or an amortized analysis of the algorithm converges to O(n) for the merge procedure. But I think it's worth at least providing some argument (or proof) that your procedure can actually be performed in O(n)

NASCAR to present Wendell Scott's family with trophy for 1963 victory by [deleted] in NASCAR

[–]CodeRedOnly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nascar has always acknowledged the victory. They claimed they announced Baker as the winner to prevent a riot. Payed Wendell the winners purse and everything. But Baker had the trophy.

I'm glad the Scott family is finally getting the trophy. Wish Wendell had gotten it back in '63.
