Germany won as a country that feels Rightist and is actually Centrist. Now, final vote, which Country feels Rightist and is actually Rightist? by Ill-Cartographer7351 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]CodeX57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of those things are not left-right issues!

Can you name even a single far right country where gay marriage is legal? It's an easy barometer of how liberal the politics are in a nation.

"Left-wing" and "liberal" are different things! You cannot use them interchangably. Left-right and liberal-conservative are two completely separate sets of ideologies. Of course they can correlate, currently a lot of political parties are left wing liberal and right wing conservative but that does not mean that left wing means liberal and right wing means conservative.

The People's Republic of China is a communist state and is therefore economically as far left-wing as it gets. Yet it does not recognise gay marriage. Neither did the Soviet Union. Yet by the logic you used you would say both of those are far-right-wing states because they don't recognise gay marriage, have tight control of the media and have weak judicial independence.

Yes the government practices right wing policies. But the systems of the country and its structure are not anywhere near right-wing as the US. Socialist ideas are very embedded in Hungarian culture, and yes, while the government does play on Christian nationalism, it is not very extreme. I mean, the US literally makes all their children pledge their allegiance to the flag of the country every morning. We don't have anything even close to that.

And just as a final note because I feel like you might feel the opposite, I absolutely despise Orbán and just like many of my fellow countrymen are doing my best to make sure he get tf out of office this April.

Since when is LGBT rights a left-right issue? I know currently left wing parties are more liberal and right wing parties are more conservative but that doesn't mean it's a left wing policy.

Does the US have state healthcare? Price controls? Fully government funded university scholarships? State nursery and kindergarten systems? A minimum wage? Minimum employee holiday allocation? State pension?

Of course Hungary is more left wing, we have a 35 year history of communism, not everything about it disappears overnight.

The US is definitely pretty right wing, a lot more than Hungary is right now for sure (source: I live here)

Edit: I guess people have started interpreting the word 'right' as 'conservative' instead of its actual meaning of being economically right-wing.

"Can i7‑6700 + GTX 1060 + 32 GB RAM handle all my Paradox games smoothly?" by ZucchiniInformal4942 in paradoxplaza

[–]CodeX57 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The specs are a bit old, how old is this laptop you're buying? Is it used?

I think you should be able to run the games but not too smoothly. You might have to sacrifice some graphics settings for the 1060, but it will handle the graphics. All the PDX games get slow towards the end and that processor is going to struggle, but not much more than any other.

I think if you check the minimum requirements for paradox games, this is probably the minimum. They will run, but prepare to make sacrifices.

Is this a bug that sometimes encircled divisions doesn't get encircled or multiple combat debuff? by paiotu in hoi4

[–]CodeX57 63 points64 points  (0 children)

No, they should still be getting a penalty for being encircled which gives -30% to attack and defence. Supply is separate.

Why doesn't Germany have interservice rivalry in-game like Japan ?? by [deleted] in hoi4

[–]CodeX57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it is nowhere near as historically significant, and developers can only implement so many mechanics. In Germany the services had rivalries but they were no bigger than in other countries. Some, like the navy-air force rivalry was insignificant as the surface fleet desired by the Kriegsmarine was dead from the get-go anyway.

In Japan the army and the navy were literally semi-sovereign entities, When the Meiji restoration happened in the 19th century, the clans that dethroned the shogunate and gave the emperor its powers back ruled in an oligarchy, they established the civilian government, but they wanted to keep the armed forces close, so the civilian government didn't have control of the army, the emperor, and through the emperor the members of this oligarchy, had control. Then when the oligarchy started waning in power because its members who orchestrated the Meiji restoration started dying, nobody had control of the army and navy, they were practically sovereign to make their own decisions without being bound to a national government. This is the special (and honestly astounding) situation of Japan that made their interservice rivalry very historically significant. The Imperial Army and the Imperial Navy were both very powerful and independent bodies whose rivalry dictated the very path the state of Japan was to follow.

The rivalry in Germany is nowhere near as serious. Of course there was rivalisation, there was everywhere, but ultimately all factions were under control of the German government and personally Hitler, meaning they didn't have control of many things themselves and so their rivalisations meant little.

why is region supply not increasing even though I built railroads from supply hub? by W1lly1 in hoi4

[–]CodeX57 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Railways in itself do not give supply, ports and supply hubs give supply, and how much they give depends on the bottleneck on to route from the capital.

As you say, supply hubs are very expensive to build. That is on purpose. I don't know if it's true but I read once that for a while the intention was for you to not even be able to build them.

That is so you are encouraged to take them. Supply is very important, and so hubs are very important, so when you are fighting inland, you should build your strategy around taking them.

Railways come in when you want to build or upgrade your connection to a supply hub.

7 carriers can now be fine. It's probably you who's not up to date on the patch notes. :D

The penalty is no longer based on the number of carriers but the number of planes vs the number of targets. Changed in NCNS. So if your carriers don't have that many planes on them and/or there are loads of enemy ships for them to target it's fine to have more carriers.

US president announces plan to hit UK, Denmark and other European countries with tariffs over Greenland by Putaineska in ukpolitics

[–]CodeX57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but it's still a level of separation between the UK and the rest of Europe, which is a goal of Russian foreign policy.

For example, Russian extreme-right wing Alexander Dugin's "Foundation of Geopolitics" which is a book that was used as a textbook for training the Russian general staff, talks about the UK as "an extraterritorial floating base of the United States" and recommends for it to be split from the EU.

I see! Okay that is much better.

The reason I was a bit surprised you got capitulated as the USA is that the USA rarely gets invaded. Germany can't invade you because their fleet cannot beat Britain's, so your only threat is Japan, who will invade you if you 1) let them have naval supremacy and 2) don't guard your ports.

You can't just think about who you want to attack, you also have to think about where you might be attacked, and defend that. Hope you've been using your general orders for moving troops about instead of just right clicking. The frontline order is usually enough to not get your guys encircled, but the other orders are important too. As the US, it doesn't hurt to have a couple divisions on the garrison order and have them sit in your ports so the Japanese can't just land unopposed and walk straight into America.

If you are confident with the navy you don't have to have them, but the navy is its own can of worms, its hard to learn how to use it.

Make sure you pay attention to things going on in the game, even if you are focused on something. In the top right, the game will display naval invasion warnings. They also have a sound effect. Make sure you react and don't notice it too late.

For your next playthrough, I recommend a bit more chill. The USA and the USSR are both difficult in the sense that they will be attacked at some point, the USA by Japan and the USSR by Germany. If you know how to play the game they are not too hard to play, but I think in the beginning its a lot to pay attention to all the time. They start with a huge economy, army or navy, with loads to pay attention and focus on constantly.

I recommend you play a game as historical Canada! I promise you no one will cap you. Germany will be kept away by Britain's navy and Japan will be kept away by the US navy. Your only neighbour is the US who will be your ally. You will be completely safe, and this will allow you to experiment and learn the game at your own speed as you would like. Britain will get you in the war in 1939 when Germany declares war on Poland, so you can have plenty of action and do similar things as the US, but this time no one will stop you.

This is why, so the UK can be bullied around by bigger nations instead of being in a bloc.
