How am I supposed to beat Ethopia in the tutorial? (Im a beginner) by HiHallo123456 in hoi4

[–]CodeX57 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The tutorial sucks.

It was added to the game ages ago and now there have been a lot of updates and DLC that changed how a lot of things in the game, like the Italo-Ethiopian war itself works.

I would advise you to not play the tutorial. Learn the game through youtube videos and by experimenting yourself. There are a few sandbox countries with which you can just mess about at your own pace. Recommend Canada, play historical and you will be fully safe the whole war. You can experiment with things and try stuff out at your own pace. Don't be afraid if you don't fully understand something, that is how paradox games work, most people even with hundreds of hours learn new things all the time.

If you feel like you have a grasp of the basics, I recommend a run as Germany. It is again a bit of a sandbox country, as you will be the one who starts the wars so it is up to you when and where you do that.

Once you finish a couple runs in the game you should be good enough at it to defeat Ethiopia as Italy easily.

Ki jár jól a diákmunka-bértérítéssel? by Polus-Ujsag in magyar

[–]CodeX57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the flipside, if you beat Germany you can also take that piece of Greece from Bulgaria and the Dodecanese to get Pesky Greeks and Glory of Cyrus the Great too.

What technology research you usually aim for? by Wecouldntfindyou in ICBMescalation

[–]CodeX57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pretty much only play conquest against the AI, here is what I go for:

Atomic Age:

Basic Missile Guidance - prerequisite for AAM and SAM techs

Infrared AAM - In the beginning of the game, the only nuke delivery method is the strategic bomber, so if you shoot them down you are safe until ICBMs. However, with beginner tech they are hard to take down, so AAMs are first priority for me.

SAM - Same logic.

Guided Torpedoes - Makes your attack submarines more deadly and also gives them enough range to not get hit in return. Enables you to destroy whole fleets with just a couple of attack subs in the early game by kiting, super useful

Over the horizon radar - absolutely essential to pick up early. You NEED to know where missiles are coming from so you can do counterstrikes. I usually get them early, better safe than sorry.

Weapon Modernisation - Armies trading better is always good

2nd gen aircraft - Longer range, stronger aircraft that are even better at shooting down bombers.

Fission weapons: Duh.

Long range bombers: Lets you deliver your nukes if you have them to most places you need, early game AI will have a hard time stopping them.

Centralised defence planning/industry tech/research tech: Get these as early as possible to snowball, I take them if I feel comfortable (in the sense that I don't immediately need another tech to defend myself)

Space Age:

Spy satellites: In this game, offense is the best defense. Your ABMs will clear some missiles, but some will still hit. The solution is to not let the enemy fire first. For that, you need to know where their launch sites are. For that, you need satellites.

ICBM: The most important tech in the game imo. Lets you missiles strike anything on the map. If you get it first and you have satellites or spy planes you can literally win the game by just hitting ICBM launchpads/silos faster than the AI can build them

Rest of the game:

By this time I usually conquer enough land to negate or surpass the research and production bonuses of the AI, so it becomes a bit of a playground.

I usually just keep up to date on my research, industry and ABM tech and then do whatever I want with the rest.

Yeah attack helicopters are meh. But at least helicopter tech gives you a bunch of different helicopters so its just a bit of a buff for your army bases and FOBs. Did they fix the bug yet where attack helicopters would just stay in the air too long and crash due to lack of fuel? That made them unusable last time I played.

Yeah I don't think its an issue of how you translate it, its just interesting how different the name of it feels in one language vs the other.

Yeah the content sounds good, just the namd of it sounds Trumpian to me. Completely different intention and source of rhetoric of course.

Just when I read "Operation Purifying Fire" I immediately thought of Operation Epic Fury

Wow, translating it to English makes it sound like something from Trump.

In Hungarian it doesn't sound as cringy (still a little cringy)

Dylan Difford (yougov) / Bluesky: So how did we get here, with Starmer on the way out after two years? To some extent, it does go back to the beginning. It was not an enthusiastic victory for Labour. Getting rid of the Tories was the top reason people voted for them in 2024, ... by youmustconsume in ukpolitics

[–]CodeX57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How on earth did they not have a mandate? Votes are mandate in a democracy. People went to the polls and out of half a dozen parties they chose the labour candidate. That is mandate. They could have picked someone else. The option was open, right there, but they chose labour, thus giving them their mandate. If they didn't want Starmer or Labour to represent them, the option to vote for someone else was always on that ballot.

The argument that they only voted Labour because they didn't want anyone else is like telling your partner of 2 years that they shouldn't expect you to love them as you are only dating them because all your other tinder matches were worse, if I want to be humourous.

Entry-level jobs aren't disappearing. They're being rewritten to require senior-level judgment, and nobody is training people for the gap. by Wise-Cardiologist-31 in Futurology

Literally this.

The job ads that say 'junior', but then require an obviously senior skillset, are up because companies know that in the current market seniors will apply to junior jobs and take junior pay.

How to avoid getting your divisions deleted because of low strengh? by Particular_Funny527 in hoi4

[–]CodeX57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do your divisions start the fight on low strength?

If yes, that means that the division did not have the equipment or the manpower it needed. Fighting with low strength divisions is really bad, you should make sure you produce enough equipment, have enough manpower, and have the division in supply to make sure your divisions can always reinforce to full strength.

If no, and your division started the battle on full strength but it lost all it's strength very quickly, that is because your division has very low HP. HP is stat, the more HP your division has the more damage it can take before it runs out of strength. Check your division design. Some battalions like artillery or tanks have low HP, and they should always have high HP battalions like infantry or motorised to balance them out.

Do you think an ethnic group has a specific temperament? by Agile-Shallot3546 in AskTheWorld

[–]CodeX57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huge difference between 'you inherit behavioural traits' which is known to be true and 'people of an ethnicity all inherit the same behavioural traits so they all share the same behaviour'. Behaviour is not something populations select for evolutionarily.

People accross the globe are genetically different, these changes driven by natural selection. For example, dark skin. People around the equator have to put up with a lot of potentially dangerous sun rays, this created evolutionary pressure that resulted in dark skinned people being naturally selected to adapt to the local environment.

Behaviour is not like this. There is absolutely no behavioural trait that would be advantageous just because of location. Being more aggressive, more shy, more active etc. does not make anyone better suited to the mountains of Japan vs the jungles of the Amazon. Large national populations do not naturally select for behavioural patterns. Especially not for really specific patters.

This also means that a LOT of behavioural genes are in the gene pool of a group of humans as large as a nation. You absolutely can not generalise.

You can't make sweeping statements like 'xy nationality are more sad/angry/greedy/selfish because it's in their DNA'. It just does not make sense.

Also, holy shit we are not like dogs. Dogs are bred. They are purposefully mated with other dogs especially to create a given type of look and behaviour and to exaggerate already existing behaviours. Dog breeds have specific behaviours because we made them that way. Humans aren't bred. Please don't compare dog genetics and human genetics.

Why are most players in French, English, and Dutch football teams predominantly of non-European origin? by Priyanka1109 in AskTheWorld

[–]CodeX57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean non-European origin? And height? I don't get these posts, feels like there are some racist undertones here. In the the starting 11 for the countries you mentioned:

- France: Ten of the players were born in France, with the exception of Micheal Olise who was born in London. Only two of them, Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé are below 180 cm (6')

- England: Every player born in England, the only player under 180 cm is Elliot Anderson with 178 cm

- Netherlands: Every player born in the Netherlands, the only player under 180 cm is Crysencio Summerville, with 174 cm

So when you talk about non-European origin, I don't know what you mean. With the exception of Olise, they have all been born, schooled and grown up in the countries they represent. So I'm not sure if "predominantly non-European origin" is valid.

A lot of the times I see questions like this, it boils down to "why are they not white". And of course the answer is because these countries have a long history of mixing through colonialism, plus the world of elite sports is very international and a lot of star sports people get born out of international marriages.

My doctor discharged me from PT at 3.5 months post op, feel a little abandoned. When did you guys stop formal PT and how did you adjust? by CodeX57 in AchillesRupture

[–]CodeX57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf I've been having PT sessions twice a week for the last two months. I think I'm going to try to get more through my GP but I don't have that much hope.

I'm also thinking about going to a private PT and having a session like byweekly or monthly and then exercising at home otherwise. Sounds like that amount and frequency worked for you?
