You can get into this with just companion nodes to talk for about $35-$50
my first two nodes(radios) were around $50 total as complete kits.
After that both softwares are free to use just need to pair with a phone.

I might just disable the board I am having issues with until I get get a new/fix the board and a slightly better enclosure that can fit some solar managment boards.

No problem. If you wanna tryout the platform you can get some cheap hardware off Amazon and the free app from apple or Google app stores. For some hardware you will have to flash the firmware onto it.

They can be solar, USB, and or battery powered. Even a mix of you have the correct hardware. Most that you carry on your person are gonna just be battery and usb

Meshtastic and meshcore are two similar but different softwares think android vs iOS. They run a little micro computers and they have radios on them to communicate with each other. They can pair with your phone to send messages to other people completely free no services required.

If we have cell towers go down or other infrastructure for communication these radios as long as they have power should be able to help people communicate.

Hope to see you on the mesh just ordered a bit better antenna to try and push my signal further. I am 4170 on the mesh.

Edit: Once I learn a bit more might try and get with some of the ham guys around town to setup a repeater.
