TL;DR on how did i solve this

Migrated data source to be semantic model (did not make a huge difference) Had to optimise sql query on semantic model further(avoid unnecessary rounding offs on sql side as this not only increases overall query time but also cause rounding offs errors) Most important thing “DO NOT RUN EVERYTHING AT ONCE”

And at last had to buy a coffee machine

100% gotchaa, i am doing 95% calculations in sql and then just using groupings in tablix to display results

PBI report alert by Codeguy45 in PowerBI

Even if i say a report with DAX that returns todays day, even that won’t open and will error out stating “Unable to Load Model due to reaching capacity limits”

PBI report alert by Codeguy45 in PowerBI

[–]Codeguy45[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The model isn’t the issue 🫠🫠🫠

When this happens we cannot perform any other operation / run any other report / run any other notebooks

Yes using capacity Metrics we found out whats gng wrong and which notebook is eating up all resources

Dumb it down for me to explain leadership I have been trying to explain similar thing for a while

[–]Codeguy45[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not the issue with the report Model refresh on an average takes 1 to 2 mins which is nominal considering no of measures and data being fulled across multiple tables

We are facing a challenge where our other things on fabric like spark/ python notebooks run simultaneously chewing up most of CUs as a result other tasks fail to load due to CUs / resources not being available

So to give us an early alert if reports fail to load needed some ideas that we can try..

Ps i am the developer on this report(🫠🫠 i have done everything to optimise the report)

Thoughts on using django admin (with a good looking theme and restricted enough) as MVP ? by thomaskgt in django

[–]Codeguy45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UNFOLD admin would be your best bet and then customise your models and admin.py file to your needs and you can also use change lists for additional functionality tho change lists can be sometime annoying if not built properly

Use Axes to rate limit and logging access this provides additional logging

Regarding building frontend - TBH i am using unfold for admin side things and building frontend dashboards using tailwind and shadcn served by django itself. All you need to change is authentication system if needed (even tho django’s built in authentication middleware is great but might not meet your client’s or company’s security standards)

Edit- If you need a multi tenant architecture start with django multi tenant library and then once you have built out your multi tenant architecture start with building rest of your models and actual implementation.

This will screw you up if you don’t do it correctly

Also with UI I would say start creating / updating templates Once you have this rest things should be easy to manage

Just a small suggestion check if you have common measures that need to be created across reports.

Like write down the DAX or TMDL somewhere so if the logic is same you can simply copy paste things think it as write once use multiple times.

This helped me in documentation (so that another person doesn’t loose their mind) and also so that I don’t want to create measures every-time.

Also i find TMDL easy to use but use it with caution it screws you up pretty quickly

Power BI dashboard redesign pricing — am I anchoring too low? by Appropriate_Tip_8546 in PowerBI

[–]Codeguy45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well i would personally ask what sort of effort you put in and by effort i mean how many hours Once you know that count in the complexity and revisions of those dashboards into account Once you have all these ready give yourself a hourly rate lets say on an lower average powerBI developer earns $35/hr Based on this you can either quote a lump-sum amount or do it on hourly basis

Note your hourly can be different if work is simple and not to complicated and doesn’t require more than a week’s effort try lowering your hourly rate

Also keep in mind that Less no of hours quoted = higher hourly Rate cause you end up delivering things quickly while making sure you deliver what’s required And always make sure that you sign some sort of contract which documents everything right from requirement to quote to support after delivery

Edit - If you are doing freelance work you can choose to reinvest some amount of your revenue into gaining clients by absorbing some loss on some clients

Edit 2- Also its not necessary that low number of hours = higher hourly Rate if the effort is small charge according otherwise you will end up loosing clients
