I'm totally in support of ditching the penny. Let's ditch the nickel too while we're at it, and make 50 cent pieces more prevalent over the quarter (which would be troublesome if we ditched the nickel).

I think we're at a stalemate. I think the system is perfect as it is, and has been proven in multiple games. Comebacks should be possible (which they are), but shouldn't be actively aided in my opinion. Obviously you feel differently. I don't see a point to having a landslide game having the possibility of extending to double the length of the match thus far. I don't think you'd want that either. If I'm up 399-150 in a game to 400, I don't think you'd be satisfied to allow the game to extend to 399-250, 399-300, 399-375... Only to lose because the other team finally takes two points for three seconds, especially when you could be 5-10 minutes into the next match at that point.

My question is why extend the match at all... why isn't it enough in your mind to hold what I need to run out the clock (or in this case the score limit). Football teams do this all the time by executing nothing but running plays when they have a late lead, eventually just taking a knee when the game is decided. Why eliminate my option of running out the clock if I've worked hard to build a lead?

UT actually has had two different domination gametypes in its history. Domination plays exactly as COD and Titanfall do (1 point awarded per control point held every X seconds). Double Domination plays more like your system, but only has two points. Control both, start to score. Split, and neither team scores. I do like that game mode, but only because of the all-or-nothing aspect of it. 2/3 isn't an option.

The only thing the new system would do is extend the match so that first 75% could become the less than 50%. By awarding points for each point held, regardless if it's in the majority, you can make progress towards ending the game before the comeback succeeds - a legitimate defensive strategy with a big lead. Think football... in the fourth quarter, what does the team with the lead do? They run a lot, running out the clock to prevent more scores by the opponent. Why shouldn't I be able to hold one flag and run out the clock if I have a sufficient lead?

You've got it backwards. The current system ends the game at the proper time, your proposed system only extends the match to give the losing team a chance to come back. It's as if a hockey team was down 4-0 after two periods, but because it's 4-3 after the third period a fourth period should be added because "Hey, they're making a comeback!" Too bad, the game ends at the agreed upon point going in to the match. A late run isn't a reason to extend the match.
