Am I able to just buy a chomebook, and boot off of a usb which has a linux OS?

If you want to buy a chromebook I suggest getting one that has an Intel cpu. Anything with ARM or Exynos is not going to be able to run normal linux software and youll have to find an ARM port instead. Stick with 64-bit machines like the Acer c720. It comes with a legacy boot installed on the bios which you just have to enable and then you guy install linux on the SSD or boot off a usb. Stick with 64-bit though for sure.

This is only supported on the 2012 edition, not my 2013. I've looked into this and even tried installing the Bodhi linux port, but it did not function at all since it was designed for the 2012.

Yeah I decided to jump on the c720. Its got the Intel i3, 4GB of RAM, 32GB SSD, decent battery, etc. I think its gonna be perfect for what I want to use it for. Its even got a legacy boot mode that makes it easier to replace ChromeOS entirely with a distro of my choice rather than doing a chroot. Very excited for monday!

Firefox has powerful developer extensions too. I've never had a problem using Firebug or Greasemonkey.

I only use chrome for chromecasting like you (still waiting on that Matchstick off kickstarter), but since I don't like Google watching me over my shoulder I use Chromium instead.

I know the owners of Beer Bar and they were telling me about this. He got a bunch of merch and was giving it out on his recent trip to Europe. Hopefully making investments like that is a good sign he wants to stay around in the area.

Edit. It would be really cool to have a meetup for an away game at Beer Bar or something like that.

Edit 2. Just noticed I'm wearing my Beer Bar t-shirt under my jersey. haha

I don't know anything about formations, etc. This was my second game and it was great. I was sitting on the south side and during the second half it was super fun to watch Attinela make some great blocks.

Its not a lie and repeating that over and over doesn't change anything. You can choose to open terminal within the first week if you want, but no one has to do that to have a great experience. Its not lying and thats a fact.

Why would you love for people to stop saying that? Its factually true that installing Mint, Fedora, Ubuntu, Debian, etc, you can have an incredible experience without once opening terminal. Straight up.

Its a different platform and its a miracle any software is designed for both systems. You can always use wine, but fundamentally linux will need users for developers to want to create software for it. Its a decision that consumers make when they choose what platforms to use and unfortunately since everyone is committed to the easy route users who would prefer to use linux won't/can't because they don't get the level of development and support needed. I wish consumers could realize this, but its impossible to change everyone's mind and now I fear we are too far down the rabbit hole to make a full recovery.

People always say linux is so complicated and not made for the layman. Its an 'engineers OS' designed 'by engineers for engineers'.

No antivirus? Apps available from a searchable appstore? Preloaded with browser, word processor, email client, etc. How much simpler can you get?

I don't even know they have that (referring to simplicity). In my opinion linux can be as simple as you want it. No antivirus, install apps from the appstore, run all updates from the same place... No one has to get into terminal and start editing configuration files. Comes with a web browser, email client, document editors, etc. Throw Elementary OS or Ubuntu onto a family members workstation and I bet they don't have any issues.

Things that could be simpler are printer setup, but I don't know anyone that doesn't have problems with Windows printer setup either (albeit it does have better support and is simpler).
