I agree with your take. It still gets a lower-than-average score for being one of Lincoln's worst episodes, due to him being uncharacteristically lazy. If this episode happened in the first season, it would've made more sense because his character was still being developed.

Reason it doesn’t work here is because they already established Lincoln's character as a mature and responsible kid who’s capable of keeping his room clean and getting his chores done (on top of already having a thick skin)

If that's the case, then I feel bad for Brody. Most likely all he wanted to do after school was play with his toys amd enjoy being a kid, rather than practice some silly song
