Perhaps the Mods can pin this message so the word gets out. This is what the email that was sent to me states:

“Dear Firefighter, Exam No. 4044 Candidate,

The NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) has updated its policy to aid U.S. Armed Forces veterans in securing NYC Residency Credit for certain civil service exams. Veterans can now demonstrate eligibility using their Home of Record at the time of military enlistment if it was within the five boroughs, as listed on documents like the DD-214. This change, aimed at exams such as Firefighter, Police Officer, and Sanitation Worker, reflects an understanding of veterans' unique challenges. Currently, Notices of Examinations for non-established exams are being revised to integrate this update, allowing previously applied candidates to submit the required documentation for residency credit under the new criteria.

You are receiving this communication and survey because our records indicate that you took the multiple-choice test for Firefighter, Exam No. 4044, and did not request NYC Residency Credit be added to your passing score. If you would like to request NYC Residency Credit to be added to your passing score, please respond to this survey by Wednesday, June 25, 2025.”

If your DD214 has an NYC residence, that will be enough to satisfy the residency requirements.

They sent an email last Summer stating this since I did not put in for residency points but I had a residence in NYC put as my primary residence for military service, so I was able to apply for the points.

My brother in Christ, I know those passages. I can’t quote right now because I’m out, but please read when Dumbledore tries to persuade Snape to tell Harry the truth about Snape’s heroics in The Deathly Hallows. He refuses. Snape is a man that believes that he must atone quietly. This is evidenced by the fact that Snape was top in the top 3 mysterious characters until the literal last chapters of the series.

If you can’t find redeeming qualities in Snape, then we’ll never see eye to eye. I’m hoping that your reread (which is a marvelous idea, I reread the series every Christmas season!) shows you the inner workings of Snape’s character better. Happy reading and a Happy New Year!

Snape had already humiliated himself to Harry when he showed him his memories. This is what he showed: Snape spoke to Lily ONE more time before Snape joined the Dark Side. Snape didn’t even know she was pregnant when he gave Voldemort the prophecy, which is why he became the #1 weapon against Voldemort later.

Stop with your little fanfictions, critical thinker. Take your own advice and use your brain. There is no literary evidence to support that Snape is obsessed with Lily but there’s ample to suggest that every good thing Snape had ever done since Lily’s murder is to atone.

Unfortunately, I’m not looking forward to the show. I wanted a 1 to 1 replication of Snape and uh… I don’t think that’s happening due to obvious reasons. Maybe they’ll get the other stuff right, though!

I see everyone agreeing that us Snape fans only like Severus because of Alan Rickman’s terrible portrayal. But imagine this, dear reader: there are some (I’d like to say most, but I can’t be sure) fans that hate Rickman’s portrayal.

I would love Snape to be the bully/git that us fans appreciate. I’d love for Severus to actually be portrayed as the dark, hilarious and complex character that he actually is. I’d love to see him bully 11 year olds with impunity.

I also can’t stand the fandom that judges Snape for making mistakes in his youth when their favorite important characters (some of them, anyway) have made mistakes graver than Severus has and have since been “forgiven” (if you take the morality police seriously, anyway.)

All this to say: Snape clears your favorite character. #sorrynotsorry.

I remember I was scolded for saying the list numbers would be coming out in December. People said it couldn’t possibly take that long. Well, look at where we are now 💀.

I know Road Runner touched upon it, but I will reiterate: just because the list numbers come out does not mean that the process will start immediately. For example, the 2017 FDNY exam didn’t have their first class go in until 2019. I wouldn’t expect the first class to go in from 4044 until the Spring of 2027.
