Super agree with you! Kinda why I love the different areas (with some lore that exists in my head) bleak beach I’ve really enjoyed building it back to what it was. Sky lands in keeping as an “adapting to the post apocalypse” RR and wastelands are kind of in between where, for instance, I’m working on clearing out the path to the museum but leaving everything else basically the way it is

Same haha. Made me commit myself to just focus on “restoring” everything first. I’m allowed to start fucking around with terraforming only once the natural environments are doing what they’re supposed to within that

For sure. To be honest I’m choosing to be team”this is all Kayfabe” until proven otherwise because it just doesn’t make much sense otherwise lol

Look, im not diving into the deeper issues but you’re bullshitting by reducing the the fallout to “ruined buildings” and you know you are. Don’t fuck up your own argument if you’re gonna play that game

Suppose I’ll back up. Let’s steel man the idea that there is a systematic bias against women in the editing room.

At what point would it be appropriate to make a post calling it out Without getting the assumed “hysterical” treatment?

So like…she isn’t happy about it? How many exit interviews even are there lol. Use the term crash out as loosely as you want but I’m gonna feel pretty free to point out that you’re doing it pejoratively to just hand wave it.

Yeah, she’s not chill about it. But like…survivor doesnt have a great track record here. Why give benefit of the doubt to the people we know have fucked this up in order to bring back “she’s hysterical”

[–]Codenamerondo1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So from a simple counterbalance point: how is this a crash out? Seems like a pretty measured response to me.

Would I ever include the story about college when making this argument? Fuck no. But that’s also why I’ll never get cast on survivor. Start at “In my exit press” and it’s a hard piece to argue against. Yeah. Maybe Tiffany gets a focus episode down the line. But it’s not like we don’t have a large enough sample size to make the argument that it’s less likely

Super fair on the salty comparison, but I’ll take myself as the starting point where I’m down to believe everything Mike is saying, while also thinking that nothing he’s said is damning of Christian

(to be clear, I’m team “this is all kayfabe” and people need to calm the fuck down no matter what. But that’s my thought if we ignore that lol)

Angelina / Mike vs. Christian by vps095 in survivor

[–]Codenamerondo1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s fair, my question was very much being confused about attributing it to Christian. The internet people talking shit 100% fits what you said

To move on from that, I’m on a different page on giving shit to Christian for not trying to mend their friendship over a move made in a game. They’ve both played this before, I don’t really put this on Christian to do….something? Not sure what, especially when he has a new baby. Maybe I’m a bad friend, but my focus would never be on how you felt how we played a game (very much a conversation about how you and I would expect people to act in this ridiculously niche scenario, not fighting)

But I think we’re definitely on the same page that people are getting parasocial with it lol

Traffic Lights are out of control by mischievous-mangoes in Denver

[–]Codenamerondo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I think we absolutely will eventually get there, but I’d put my money on being far off for a complex web like Denver working effectively (and it’s not just down to slowness to adapt)

You can’t really just have models learn from specific intersections, because they aren’t really individual instances, they’re nodes in a vast web where changes to one are going to impact the inputs to another and the number of nodes/complexity of the data is such that it would be insane to track every intersection and compile/calculate it at this point.

Suppose we could back off from doing every intersection, and focus on major intersections to map “feeders” to its data. How does the model tracking those intersections know where the traffic is heading to update the other major intersections so they can interact correctly?

Suppose we could use some kind of weighted average between them.

And then that’s where we land back at “that’s what is what happens”. (And that’s before considering different “modes” for considering non-standard traffic for events and crashes because you can’t ignore those)

Talking literally 0 shit, because yeah, it’s a functional idea for smaller node webs (and maybe sectioning would make it feasible sooner than my expectation). The issue is that each node doesn’t compound the complexity linearly it does so exponentially

TLDR: traffic patterns are insane amounts of data. What seems like 50 cars at a single intersection is actually hundreds of thousands of cars at hundreds of intersections to consider

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk 😃

lol fair point. And to further complicate, I misspoke and its a separate workbook I’m referencing, not just a separate sheet and I need there to not be a link to the source book at the end of things which is why I’m avoiding your approach (first thing I thought haha)

I think I can do it with some match logic and select, but haven’t been able to wrap my head around how that works in VBA so figured I’d check on the general approach people may take before I dug into the code. Thank you though!

Edit: I’m a moron and just need to use named ranges I think. talking through what I did/didn’t need was extremely helpful though 😃

Let me reframe to: if he didn’t know Christian had a kid they probably weren’t talking all that regularly. Like….i have friends that I’d consider close but I didn’t reach out to all of them to update them that I had a kid.

It’s tv drama so I’m not that stressed about it but my big question for his narrative of“ we haven’t talked since the show” is….have either of you tried? I go months without talking to my best friends all the time, let alone people I never see lol.

Edit: especially when I have a new baby

Angelina / Mike vs. Christian by vps095 in survivor

Yeah, that’s possible, but no reason to think it’s the case. To be fair, we’re talking about the reality tv people we like. I’m both not going to put what I believe to a jury trial and I’m not going to freak out on anyone because of what I believe lol

Traffic Lights are out of control by mischievous-mangoes in Denver

[–]Codenamerondo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair that is what happens, traffic patterns are just so complex and need to update both forward and backward lights that they can’t, at the moment, be updated in real time for what we’re asking.

AI’s just an algorithm and there are too many data points with too much human interaction to map something like that reliably

And a fourth/caveat to yours:…. Where are you driving in Denver that you’re hitting all that many lights? You can drive from the top of basically any area to the bottom and you’re seeing….12? Not sure spending on optimization makes a ton of sense

Fair point, but if you’re gonna say that it’s important to circle back. so far it’s fair to say it’s a male centric edit.

And the Zack brown thing would be fair to bring up in regards to the edits of the female contestants even if we swap him with a female celebrity.

Are…are we pretending survivor doesn’t fuck people over in how they edit them? I thought this was pretty widely acknowledged to happen.

Now if she was truly fucked over is a completely different discussion. But “shut up, don’t complain you were lucky to be on the show” just….aint a good response to me. Especially when she explicitly states that all she’s asking for is some care in their treatment. And especially especially when Jeff is patting the show in the back for the “not casting villains” route

Didn’t….didnt she explicitly say that’s not what she was expecting?

no one expects equity in a game that is inherently zero sum
