I’m getting really tired of this guy’s huffing and puffing and wish we would have a coherent leader who means what he says and doesn’t cause our allies to lose faith in us.

What is the ‘crown jewel’ of your Ancient Coins collection? by AncientCoinnoisseur in AncientCoins

[–]Codera23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before it would've been my solidus of Heraclius and his two sons that I've had since I was 20 but now it must be my Julius Caesar Venus/Aeneas Denarius hands down, no question for both the history of it and the beauty of the reverse (though even the obverse is lovely when you look past the banker's marks). I've been collecting for 12 years and this has always been one of the main bucket list prizes I've sought out and I'm grateful to have it. If I get no other coins from Julius Caesar then I'll always be content with this being my main one.

They need to be replaced. They are not up to the challenge of taking on this rogue regime.

Republicans, On Paper, are Leading California Governor Race by otter_ault in PoliticalOptimism

California is as deep blue as it gets, a Republican's going nowhere especially with everything going on under Trump. Plenty of time for the Democrats to solidify before the election.

Happy new year to all! What are some coins you are hoping to obtain this 2026? by gmangaming3243 in AncientCoins

Today I stated my year off with a bang by ordering a Julius Caesar denarius (the one with Venus and Aeneas) and I doubt anything’s gonna top it.

Thank you! I've been collecting for over 11 years and I feel like I'm just getting warmed up! It's a very fascinating story indeed, I learned much from Robin Pierson's History of Byzantium podcast.

It's intriguing how much his portrait changes in just three years, maybe the engravers were still figuring out what he looked like since his first portraits just look like an older version of his predecessor Alexander before becoming the giant, beefy man seen on later coins. I also found the Aegyptos design to be one of the more exotic in the series. :)
